It finally struck midnight
for the Cinderella post -
season of the Exeter Kin-
smen midgets as the club
lost 10-2, Wednesday, to be
eliminated in the OMHA
quarter -final by Six Nations.
Exeter took a quick lead in
the fifth and deciding game
when Scott Brintnell banged
in a rebound from a shot by
Steve Batten at the 1:17
mark of the first, but Six
Nations then took complete
control of the game with
their superior passing and
skating to send the locals to
the sidelines.
Steve Batten scored
Exeter's other goal when he
stole a puck in front of the
Six Nations net while killing
a penalty and back -handed a
shot into the top corner.
Despite the lass, the local
squad enjoyed a remarkable
playoff record after a dismal
showing in the Shamrock
league . when they won .only
three games and ended up in
the loop cellar.
They met St. Marys in the
first round of OMHA play
and surprised the Stonetown
lads by winning the set in the
maximum seven games,
taking the deciding tilt in St.
Marys.
That put them against Six
Nations and they again went
the full distance in a best -of -
five before being sidelined.
Between the two OMHA
playoff seta, the locals won
the "B" championship in
the. Shamrock playoff
tournament by posting wins
over Port Stanley, Mt..
Brydges and Parkhill.
The team ended the season
with 17 wins, 19 losses and
four ties in 40 league,
exhibition and playoff
games. Their 131 goals gave
them a goals -for average of
3.27 and netminder Peter
Dearing had a goals -against
average of 3.6 and was one of
the dominant factors in the
squad's playoff contests.
At the team's windup par-
ty, Friday, netminder Peter
Dearing was . named most
valuable player for the
season. Greg Hern won the
most improved player, it be-
ing his first year on a local
all-star team.
Winner of the Bogart fami-
ly Hawk award was Eric
Tadgell. The award goes to
the player best displaying
dependability, determina-
tion, sportsmanship and
perseverance.
