Dear Mr. Batten:
We would like to thank you •
for the article on Greg Pfaff
donating his "Santa" money
to the Cancer Society.
However, there was a grin -
ting error in the paper. We
reported to you Greg's dona-
tion as $534.00 and pot ;354.00
as reported in the paper. This
is a . considerable difference
and I am sure caused great
concern to Greg.
Is there any way a correc-
tion can be made.
Thanking you
Joyce Black
Ed. Note - We apologize for
the error and hope your letter
serves as an appropriate
correction.

Dear Sir:
On behalf of the Global
Television Network, I would
like to congratulate you and
your staff for being awarded.
"Best Editorial Page,
General Excellence, Class 4"
at the recent Ontario Com-
munity Newspapers Associa-
tion Convention.
At this time, I would also
like to acknowledge the great
contribution the Advocate
makes to Exeter and the sur-
rounding area.
Keep up the great work!
Yours truly,
• Al Dublin,

Services
Dear Bill;
Last week's edition of the
Times -Advocate contained a
letter explaining the increas-
ed charges for hydro and
water.
There are many people,
myself included who would
like an explanation vVhy the
high schoolteachers of Huron
County have just been award-
ed an increase of 10 percent
for each of the next two years.
How can this be justified at
a time when there are 1.1
million unemployed people in
Canada (20 percent of whom
are white-collar workers but
precious few are school
teachers), many people being
forced to take pay cuts and
many small businessmen and
farmers forced with
bankruptcy?
While the standard' of
•
education continues to
decline,teachers' salaries
continueto escalate. At the
present rate of salary in-
creases, • principals will be
earning $100,000 in just seven
years plus a very generous
pension plan and all this for
just 190 working days each
year.
Meanwhile, in the private
sector, people with similar
qualifications and respon-
sibilities, will be fortunate to
earn one-third this amount.
You can turn off the hydro
and water and thereby reduce
your charges but how do you
turn off education i.e. proper-
ty taxes? Even as a non -user
(not having children in the
education system) you are
still forced to pay the full shot.
The most galling part of all
for many people was to read
in the London Free Press that
the members of the Huron
County school board were
"pleased with the settle-
ment". What right does the
school board have to express
an opinion which is not in-
dica tive of the truefcelings of
the tax -payers in this county':
If the high school teachers
are worth the increase they
have jftst been granted then
the members of the Medical
Profession should be asking
for an increase of 100 percent
if you compare the respective
work loads.
Yours sincerely
J.T. Wilson
