Midgets even with Six. Nations in OMNA .playoffs
The Exeter and Six
Nations midgets are tied at
one game each in their beat -
of -five OMHA quarter -finals
as each team recorded a
three goal margin on its
home ice over the weekend.
The locals ran their win
streak to six straight with a
7-4 win at home, Friday, but
were beaten 5-2 at Ohsweken
on Sunday. That reduces the
series to a best -of -three
affair now as the squads
battle to enter the provincial
semidinals.
Third game in the series
will be played in Exeter on
Friday at 8:30 p.m. with the
fourth going in Ohsweken on
Sunday at 6:30. If the fifth
game is needed it will be
back in Exeter on Wed-
nesday.
Exeter took advantage of
some sloppy netminding by
the Six Nations backup
goalie to record their win at
home, but the regular net -
minder returned to action on
Sunday and played a steady
game to help his mates to
their victory.
Peter Dearing played
superb goal for Exeter in
both games and was par-
ticularly brilliant on Sunday
despite the loss. The last goal
of the game was into an
empty net.
Take series lead
Exeter blew a 3-1 first
period lead in Friday's home
opener, but rebounded with
three straight tallies late in
the second and early in the
third to cap their initial win.
Randy Ford started the
squad off with an unassisted
effort midway through the
first, and after the visitors
knotted the count, Steve
Batten and Eric Tadgell
scored to give Exeter a 3-1
margin. Brent pawson drew
the assist on the . first goal
and Dave Hayter set up the
goal by Tadgell.
Six Nations drew to even
terms midway through the
second with two goals in less

Chipchase said his team is
finally playing to its
potential. He added, "We are
now getting a complete team
effort from everybody and
goalie Tom Steeper is
playing the way he did two
years ago with Parkhill."

The marksmen were Rick
Moody and Pete Gill.

Deters, Mike Anstett, Dan
Bell and Dave Jackson.
Each team received nine

nesday's game by a score of
5-3. All scoring came in the
second and third periods.
The Mohawks jumped into
a 2-0 lead early in the middle
frame and were able to hang

Batten fired the eventual
winner when he tipped in a
point shot by Brian Black-
burn on a power play in the
opening minute of the third
period.
Brent Atthill made it 6-3
with just over five minutes
remaining when he finished
off a play with Sean
Whiteford and Ahmed
Osman. '
Six Nations pulled to
within two with two minutes
left in the contest, only to
have Scott Brintnell ice the
game when he took a
clearing pass from Batten
and skated into the visitors'
end to hit the empty net as
Six Nations went with an
extra attacker.
The visitors took the only
four penalties called in the
game, with Exeter
capitalizing on one of their
power play attempts.
Series knotted
Playing on their home ice
and with their first string
goalie back in action, the Six
Nations team came up with et
much stronger performance
to post their 5-2 victory,
Sunday.
The home crew drew first
blood in leas than four
minutes, but Steve Batten
evened the count on a power
play with five minutes left
when he deflected a point
shot by Brian Blackburn into
the cage.
Six Nations regained their
one -goal lead in the final
minute of the first on a power
play and then scored the only
goal of the middle frame to
take a 3-1 margin.
Exeter failed to capitalize
on a two-man advantage
early in the third and Six
Nations upped ,their lead to
three goals when they hit the
mark on a power play with
just under five minutes
remaining.
Steve -Gould brought
Exeter back to within two
when he connected on a
backhander from in front of,
the net on a play with Brent
Dawson and Ahmad Osman
with three and a half minutes
left, but Six Nations sealed
the win when they scored in
the final minute with Peter
Dearing on the bench in
favor of an extra attacker.
The home team took nine
of the 16 penalties called in a
tilt that was rougher than the
series opener in Exeter.
