TEMPLEMAN STAFFA Mrs. John Miller hosted the March meeting of the Cromarty Ladies Aid at her home on Monday evening with seven ladies present. The Quance girls, Trudy. • and Tracey entertained everyone with their step dancing. They are pupils of Shirley Miller. Kippen 4-H make bread By MRS. RENA CALDWELL KIPPEN The KippenDoughGirlsare "kneading" a break after the `hard work that has been put into the club thus far. After - three meetings they are well on their way to becoming professionals at bread - baking. The third meeting was held at the home of Kathy Finlayson, February 23. The meeting started by com- pleting the deli rye bread. Zuni cornbread was begun which will be sampled at the next meeting. Bookwork and business was completed and it was decided to have a Crazy -hat Party. Last week's home assignment of teddy -bear bread was discussed and improvements suggested. Finnish health bread and deli rye bread were sampled. Comments varied from "yum" to "yuk". Personais Mr. and Mrs. Hank Bin- nendyk and- girls have returned from a holiday in Europe. , Kippen East W.I. will meet at Vanastra, March 17 at 8:30 p.m. There will be a guest speaker and each member is asked to bring a friend. Templeman presided, opening the meeting with a poem "A Kitchen Prayer" and Hymn 412 with Mrs. Tom Scott ac- companing on the autoharp. Mrs. Jean Carey gave the devotions taking her scrip- ture reading from- Genisus Chapter 8 and Matthew Chapter 5, Her meditation was on Lent followed by a poem "Its not too late to plant a garden" and closing with prayer. During business some thank you notes were read. A committee was named for the stawberry and ham supper on June 23 and a dis- cussion was held regarding purchasing a vacuum cleaner for the church. Roll call was answered by giving a housecleaning hint. Layettes for the Unitarian Service were displayed. There were sixcomplete layettes, all lovely and two partial ones plus, quilts,, afghans, sweaters, bloomers and slippers, a wonderful response. Mrs. Mervin Dow and the hostess served lunch. Personals A treat is in store for anyone attending the Sunday afternoon church Service at Croniarty Presbyterian Church March 21, when the Covenant Players will be participating in the service. The Covenant Players are a non-profit corporation, not affiliated with any church. They have over 50 touring units and have performed throughout 30 countries on 4 continents. Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Jeffery have returned from a enjoyable holiday in California. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Scott, Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Armstrong and Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Scott have returned from a holiday in Florida. . Mr. and Mrs. Wm Mahon and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Dow are home again from a holiday in the Barbados. Women observe prayer day, Granton units hold meetings By MRS. E. SUMMERS GRANTON Unit 1 of Granton UCW met at the home of Mrs. Elmer Summers on March 3. Mrs. Gordon Mc Robert presided and opened the meeting with a hymn followed by scripture con- cluding the devotions with prayer. Business items were discussed and taken care of, also plans for the April general meeting program which Unit one is responsible for. Mrs Elwood Morden was in charge of the program, and talked about faith and justice, also• read a letter from the "Mandate" written by the United Church Moderator Mrs. Lois Wilson who has returned home from a study tour of India. The members of the unit were also treated to a tape recording of songs per- formed by a male trio from Arkona. The meeting con- cluded with a reading which described the . marks of Christian, and naming the following characteristics, loyalty, patience, humility, love and generosity. Miss Mabel ,McNaughton and Miss Edna Wallis assisted the hostess to serve lunch. Mrs. James Kerr was hostess for Unit 4. Mrs. Gary Humphrey presided and opened the meeting with the scripture followed by a story entitled "I am an unknown author of solitary life. A quilt made by the Unit was displayed, a number of items of business was discussed and taken care of. 'Program conveners were Mrs. Gerald Dann and Mrs. Stanley Crawford. Mrs. Dann read a story from the new Study Book, on Liberation and the scripture telling the story of the liberation of Israel from slavery. Mrs. Dann read a poem "Living Sermons" and Mrs. Crawford - a story entitled "The Treasure and the Pearl." concluding with a timely poem "St. Patrick March 17." Lunch was served by the hostess assisted by Mrs. Tom Gagan and Mrs. Floyd Dykes. World Day of Prayer There was a good at- tendance at •the annual World Day of Prayer service held in the Granton United Church, - with St. Thomas Anglican and Wesley United Church members taking part in the service, on,Friday. The theme was "People of God, gathered for worship, scattered for service" and was compiled by the women of Ireland. The litany of prayer was. led by Mrs. Leroy Bryan U.C.W. president assisted by readers. Mrs. Joseph French, Mrs. Wm. Mardlin and Mrs. Clarence Lewis gave a Meditation -on the theme, and a short drama was presented on the life of Brigid Kildare who formed a committee of men and women in her native Ireland, to minister in Christ's name. She was also supposed to have heard St. Patrick preach. Mr. Douglas Barr was guest organist for this ser- vice. Forester news Court Valentine met at the Mason's Hall on March 3. Sis. Jean McComb presided and opened court; business discussed included plans to cater to the Rabbit Breeders banquet in April; a wedding in August, also to have a bake sale in the summer. The draw for a forester coffee spoon was won by Sis. Melba St. Dennis and 'the No's draw by Sis Margory Mills. Sis. Dorothy Hern provided the lunch. Church news At the United Church the Rev. Elwood Morden was in charge of the morning worship for the 'Second Sunday in Lent. The theme for his sermon was entitled "The Divine Intercessor. Members voted that the dessert euchre will be held March 18 at 1: 30 in the Lodge Hall. Everyone . was reminded to bring dessert. A donation of 8200. was given to the Heart Saver Programme being taught in this community by Jim Hoffman and Dee Bower- man. A donation was also given to tile Big Brother and Big Sister Organization. Friendship Night will be held on March 20 at the Rec Centre. Banquet and dance tickets can be bought from any lodge member and at Whiting's Warehouse. Sister Lois Armstrong reported on Heritage Day. Members volunteered to make 100 pies for the Beef Barbeque and items will be donated for a table at the 'flea market' being set up at the Legion o�i July 17. Lodge was closed and a penny sale was conducted by the programme, committee in charge.
