received a rough reception
from council.
The draft bylaw was
describe4'as a toil, which a
municipality can alter,
which 'Mild be essential for
HensaII's BIA. because of
grant structures.
But. Councillor Minnie
Noakes said as far as she
was concerned the draft
bylaw should be adorned
with "a hammer and
sickle".
Reeve Paul Neilands
agreed it is "contoversial"
and Packham agreed it
needs "toning down."
Council decided to set up a
special meeting with county
planner Roman Dzus to dis-
cuss and review the draft
property standards bylaw.

for the ladies' meeting which
followed and opened the
meeting with a paper on New
Year's resolutions. She
thanked everyone, for their
support during the past year.
Following the business the
meeting closed with prayer.
UCW MEETS
Group 3 of the U.C.W. met
on Tuesday afternoon in the
Church Parlors at Hensall
United Church with Mrs.
Dorothy Brintnell presiding
and opening the meeting
with prayer and the theme
song.
Mrs. Fredo Boa was in
charge of the worship en-
titled "Coats Off to the
Future".
The Presbyterial will be
held January 25 in Hensall
United Church. Mrs. Ross
Riley had the study on
"Faith and Justice".
Numerous items of
business were discussed and
the hostesses were Mrs. Ross
Riley and Mrs. Ed Dick.
SENIORS CANCEL
The Three Links Senior
Citizens which was to be
held on Tuesday, January 12
has been postponed until
Tuesday, January 19 owing
to the weather conditions.
The Kippen East Women's
Institute are hosting the
"Three Links" seniors to
dinner on Wednesday,
January 20 at 12 noon in
Carmel Presbyterian
Church. Keep this date in
mind.
The January meeting of
Unit 4 of the U.C.W. of
Hensall United Church was
held on Thursday, January
7th in the Fellowship Hall at
2:30 p.m. with 12 members
and one visitor present.
Mrs. Nan Britton, the
leader, presided for the
meeting and opened the
singing of the hymn"Glory be
to God the Father" and.
Lord's Prayer in unison.
Mrs. Myrtle Sherritt was
pianist for the meeting and
Mrs. Madeline Harburn was
hostess.
Mrs. Mabel Parke had
charge of the Devotional
reading psalm 146. Her talk
was on "Thoughts of the New
Year" and she gave many
worthwhile things Co
remember and closed with
prayer.
Mrs. Myrtle Sherritt had
charge of the study period
and presented a beautiful
message on ' ..Living fi For
Today" taken from psalm
118. She said we must live
one day at a time to the
fullest and not to brood over
the past and says only today
belongs to us, and tomorrow
belongs to God. She gave
many thoughts and quotes
from the Bible and some of
the great writers.
The minutes and roll call
were taken with Mrs.
Dorothy Mickle, secretary
and treasurer's report was
given by Mrs. Myrtle
Sherritt.
Mrs. Hilda Payne, the new
U.C.W. president spoke and
men-tioned the
congregational meeting to be
held Wednesday, January 20
starting with a pot luck
supper and Unit 4 was asked
to set the tables. On Monday,
January 25 the Huron -Perth
Presbyterial Annual
business meeting will be held
in HensallUnited Church,

Children's group
coming to Stratford

Sharon. Lois and Bram,
the very popular children's
recording group will be
appearing at the
Shakespearean Festival in
Stratford on February 13 at 3
p.m.
The trio. known to
children and adults alike
through their four albums
and numerous concerts, are
making a repeat perfor-
mance in Stratford, and will
have a six -piece band.
In 1978 with a bilingual
counting song about
elephants playing on a
spider's. web. Sharon, Lois
and Bram burst onto the
Canadian music scene. One
Elephant. Deux Elephant,
their first record and first
time singing together,
became the fastest selling
children's album in Cana-
dian history.
Since then three more
successful records have
been produced,
Smorgasbord, Singing 'N
Swinging. and most recent-
ly. In The Schoolyard.
Smorgasbord and Singing 'N
Swinging resulted in the trio
receiving Juno awards for
best children's album of the
yea r
Sharon. Lois and Bram
have performed to sell-out
family and school concerts
from sea to sea in Canada
and the United States, play-
ing to over 300,000 people in
more than 75 communities.,
They made their U.S. debut
before 3.000 children,at New
York's Lincoln Centre'Out

from their records.

play euchre
The first meeting of
Amber Rebekah Lodge of the
New Year was held on
Wednesday evening with the
Noble Grand Bertha
MacGregor presiding
assisted by the Vice Grand
Gladys Coleman.
Mrs. Elizabeth Riley gave
an interesting report of the
annual meeting of the C.P.T.
committee held in Cobourg
in November. ' Treasurer
Dorothy Corbett gave the
report and Gladys Coleman
gave the visiting report.
An invitation was received
from Goderich Lodge to a
banquet, February 2 to
celebrate the visit of the Vice
President, Sister Hall.
The euchre planned for
this month was post poned
owing to other activities.
Following Mrs. Irene
Blatckwell and Mrs. Vera
Lemmon conducted
progressive euchre, after
which the social committee;
Mrs. Hazel' Corbett, Mrs.
Bertha MacGregor and Mrs.
Leona Parke served lunch.

a splendid recipe for the New
Year. The closing hymn
"Holy Spirit Hear Us" was
sung and Mrs. Britton led in
prayer. A lovely lunch was
served by the committee in
charge namely: Mrs. Eileen
Dowson and Mrs. Nellie
Rilely.
Van Wieren presented his
monthly report, plus a
analysis of building permit$
issued for Hensall during
1981.
The total value of permits
issued in the village rose
significantly above the .1980
figure to 8605,500 from 1158,-
600.
The two largest permits
contributing to the increase
last year were a building
project at General Homes
for 8247,000 and additions
and repairs to the bank of
Montreal for ;160,000.
There ,were no permits
issued for new homes in
Hensall in 1981. Permits
issued in the additions and
repairs category were
valued at 8236.500 and per-
mits issued in the garage
category were valued at
$369.000.
The meeting was adjourn-
ed at 8:45.
