CHRISTMAS IN THE OLDEN DAYS By Christine Parsons Usi erne Central Leong ago when my grand- parents celebrated Christ- mas. they went to bed at about 8:06. Before they went to bed they hung up their stockings. They were very excited about Christmas Day and about learning about Christ and getting presents. Their parents decorated the tree while they were sleeping. They were used to getting little presents, they needed, like nightgowns, socks or stockings The tree had decorations but not a lot. They usually strung popcorn to decorate their trees. In the morning they woke up and looked in their stockings. They would find in their stockings little things like pens or pencils for school and oranges for a treat. On their Christmas tree there were no lights and they even had to make some of their decorations. My grand- mother's mother made some of their gifts but bought most of them: They got more clothing than toys and always got something they needed in clothing. They were used to getting two to four gifts. Well they had a lot of fun. back then and we also do -now. Merry Christmas! . Times -Advocate, December 22, 1981 HOW CHRISTMAS SHOULD BE By Brenda Balsdon• Room 10-E.P.S. 1 think Christmas should be a more joyful day. We should have parades all around the town. sing carols, play tunes and show off toys. After that. everyone should go back home and the children should do skits, plays. dances. magic shows and things like that for their family and neighbours. Then. having a big turkey dinner with relatives and worshipping the Lord would make the Christmas Day complete. witiroviftwarkwisietionoliftwompostemswisiplevolmumkomipwaristreimktopsiftwittigi o p 0 O„ O oIa o ° w ° . oV -O O 0 0 O 0 O 0 0 O 0 Relish. wealth & happiness that's what we seer all our friends!
