A VISION OP CHRISTMAS
Sy Kinn Crawford .
Roan 10•11.P.S.
Christmas 50 years ago
was a lot different than it is
today. Most people eat a
turkey for Christmas but fif-
ty years ago people usually
ate a goose because they
raised them on their farms.
Children only got one pre-
sent and a few little gifts In
their stockings. Their
presents from Santa were
something big like a doll
buggy or a tricycle. In their
stockings they yeceived little
things like barrettes and
candies.
If children were good, they
received oranges or
tangerines in their
stockings. If children were
• bad they received a rotten
potato ora piece of coal.
Families usually got their
tree from a nearby bush or
swamp. They decorated
their tree with tinsel and
strings of popcorn. Some
trees had candles and some
trees didn't. The candles
were lit on "Christmas Day
when the gifts were being
opened. Christmas was a lot
different then it is today and
probably children ap
precial:ed what they receiv-
ed more than we do.

Christmas Time
By Vatrana Vannovong
Precious Blood
Last year my family made
a Christmas tree. We had
lots of ftin at Christmas time.
I had toys and my brother
had a big dog.
My sister had some toys
too, and my older sister had
a baby bear. She loved her
bear. My mom had a dress
and my dad had pants.

Christmas was their first in

It was a beautiful night,
The stars were shining
and the moon was glow-
ing faintly. I trotted down
the sandy, dirt, oad. My
load got heavier and
heavier after every step I
took, I was grateful when
Joseph stopped to let me
rest while he walked into
an- inn. Mary was great
with child. Rumours had
it that she was to give
birth of the Christ Child.
Joseph trudged back
with bad news - no room
left. We journeyed on un-
til we finally reached a
small inn. Joseph walked
in -and hopefully kot us a
room. After a few
minutes he returned,
following the innkeeper.
Oh, good we have a room
I thought I was wrong, he
was leading me around to
the back. We reached a
tiny, little manger with
lots of animals and hay.
Surely they wouldn't let
Virgin Mary give birth to
the Baby Jesus in a
manger?
I can see some animals
like myself, but a
woman? I was right
though. Mary sat down on
a milking stool, Joseph
stood beside her, comfor-
ting her. They piled up
hay that was really meant
for animal's beds. Was
this women going to have
an animal? All the
animals, myself included
watched with curiosity
•
NO CHRISTMAS SURPRISE •
As the thought suddenly
occurred to me I sprang up
and out of bed and just near-
ly missed a headlong crash
with my younger brother,
both in a hurried attempt to
reach the Christmas tree
first. -
I ran to make some orange
juice while my brother woke
up mom and dad. Still half
sleeping, they drudgily join-
ed us in the living room for
they both knew how excited
and anxious we were to get
on with the opening of the
presents.
This happy scene may
sound very familiar to you
as it happens every year in
many homes across the
country. But what about in
the homes where no Christ-
mas celebration takes
place? It may be a bit hard
to imagine, since most of us
are so lucky but if you could
just take the tie to think
about it, it can get pretty
depressing.
Picture in your mind no
stuffed turkey, no
cranberries, no presents,
and none of the friendly at-
mosphere of being together
with your family. This may
be the result of an accident,
tragedy or a problem with
your finances. So consider
yourself lucky and be
thankful of what you've got
and have yourself a meery
Christmas!

The bright sunshine peer-

was happening.
Although it was very
late out, the sky was lit up
with stars, but one es-
pecially big, bright and
beautiful star could not go
unnoticed. It was directly .

the Child was born. Peo-

Dear Santa,
Last year's stuff is all
broken or lost. You see the
big marker set you gave me,
the set of 100, well there are
only two left. '
The sled you gave me
crashed into a tree and split
down the middle.
And the clock -radio you
gave me fell on the floor,
now the radio is pure blurr,
and the clock doesn't tell the
right time.
So this year please give
me things unbreakable.

people were finished
three, scraggly looking
shepherds walked in.
They gave the Baby three
lambs. They said that an
angel told them about the
birth of the Child and told
them to follow the big
star. A likely story. After
the shpeherds left three
magi came to the manger
on camels. They said that
Herod sent them to do
Jesus harm, but seeing
the star that Herod said
to follow to find Him they
rejoiced exceedingly with
joy. .
They were now
worshipping Him and giv-
ing him gifts of gold,
frankincense and myrth.
Personally I thought that
• these people were crazy -
giving a child perfumes!
After what seemed
years. the people left.
Imagine - the Child not
even a day old and
already everyone from
Bethlehem has' seen Him.
In later years I found
out that 1 had seen the
birth of our Saviour, the
Lord Jesus Christ. I took
back every word 1 sad and
I realized that I was just a
jealous donkey! night.
What Does Christmas Mean?
By Valerie Parkinson

Christmas lights and fresh
pine trees,
There's a side of Christmas
that no one sees,
Receiving gifts on each
Christmas morn.
But. does anyone remember
when Jesus was born?
We think of Christmas as full
of cheer.
Which only comes just once
a year.
Bells hanging high, and
wreathes on the door,
Cookies on the table and
crumbs on the floor,
The meeting and gathering
of each family side,
Gives a special warm feel-
ing deep down inside,
The real meaning of Christ-
mas does anyone know?
To you I will tell, and to you
I will show.
It's partly the presents, it's
partly the joy,
Of the child Jesus the -Holy
Baby. Boy.
