An old fashioned Christmas
By Vicki Reynolds
Room 10 - E.P.S.•
Long ago they had no ar-
tificial trees so they had to
go out in the forest and cut a
tree down. Then when they
got it home they decorated it
with paper and pinecones. In
those days they did not have
any coloured lights to hang
and that's a shame.
They got one gift from
Santa and a gift from their
parents If they were lucky
they got an orange. apple
and sometimes candy. Then
if aunts and uncles came
they might get a gift from
them Their Christmas
dinner was somewhat like
ours but they had goose in-
stead of turkey. They also
put candles on the tree.

Are You True? By Torii L....
I heard a rustle as I lay in bed
Then I remembered what my mother had said,
"There is no such thing as Santa Claus"
But then I heard something that made me pause.
"In Holland and Belgium they call me St. Nick
I have many places to go so I have to be quick,"
I jumped out of bed as I swirled and swirled
I thought he'd come from another world.
As soon as I had decided to settle down
I went downstairs and saw a man from out of town.
His hat was red and his coat was red
He was carrying a sack and a loaf of bread. '
1 said. "Hello, what is your name?"
"Santa Claus and company that's why I came."
I couldn't believe it as I stood there.
When he was done he flew in the air.
I saw a red nosed reindeer and a sleigh,
Then all of a sudden they flew away,
Then somebody cried with all his might
"Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!"

CHRISTMAS IN
HOLLAND
By Nathalie Goufd
Grade 3 Zurich P.S.
Christmas in Holland is
slightly different than our's.
The parents would make
large cardboard figures and
fill them with candies and
toys. Then they would hang
them on the ceiling with
string before Christmas Eve.
On Christmas Eve the
children would gather
together and their mother
would tie a blindfold around •
one of the boys or girls head.
Then the child would take a
stick and try to hit the
figures. If the child hit one
all of the children would run
to the fallen things. That was
the most fun time for
everyone.
MY CHRISTMAS

Some kids think Christmas
is Santa and some gifts. But
I think it is the gift of love.
Just being with your family
is the best gift of all. Of
course presents are nice but
to have a family is much
more important.
Christmas is a day of giv-
ing. not receiving, so let's
give a little thought about
that.

GRANDPA'S CHRISTMAS
By David Thiel
Grade 4 Z urich P.S.
When grandpa was a boy
his Christmas was different
from ours.
Oh, yes he did have all the
traditions we have but he did
not get all the presents we
do. In fact he only got one, or
sometimes two.
Santa never gave fifty or
sixty dollar presents. Very
seldom would they equal six
or seven..
Granpa would get a toy
truck or a nice teddy bear.
He was very thankful when
he got them. For grandpa the
presents we get would be
only a dream.
We are very fortunate that
we get all the presents we do.
