WI donates baskets
Large crowds attend Clandeboye Christmas Church services
A large crowd was on hand
for the Christmas service,
Sunday morning at St.
James Anglican ch. The
lessors were read by Gladys,
Joan and Joe Cunningham,
Barbara Carter and Rev.
Bruce Pocock. Poems were
read by Karen Leger and
Alissa Wragg.
Christmas hymns were
sung between each reading
or poem and Lisa Carter,
Karen Leger and Alissa
Wragg sang, "We Three
Kings. At the conclusion of
the service the children
gathered at the rear of the
church to receive their
Christmas treat. The
congregation was invited to
attend"Open House" Sunday
evening at the rectory.
Christmas Eve, the ser-
vice of the Holy Eucharist in
celebration of Christ's
Nativity, will be held at 7:30
p.m. in St. James Church.
ACW meats
St. James Anglican
Church Women met at the
home of Gladys Cunningham
on Monday afternoon. 'fie
members answered the roll
call with a Christmas word.
The program was based on
"Peace" and all members
participated.
Readings were given by
Barbara Carter and Hazel
Cunningham.Officers for the
coming year remain the
same with Hazel Cun-
ningham as president,
Evelyn O'Neil, secretary
and Gladys Cunningham as
treasurer.
The hostess served a
delicious lunch and a social
time enjoyed by all.
Christmas remembrances
were delivered to Mary
Carter at Craigholme
Nursing Home and to
Wilfred Cunningham.
United church
There was a better than
average attendance at the

Christmas Family Service in
Clandeboye United Church,
Sunday. Rev. Keith Brown
told the s>ibry of "The
Shepherd Who did not Go."
The girls choir sang, "How
Far is it to Bethlehem". The
hymns were the familiar
Christmas carols.
Following the service,
candy bags, provided by the
Sunday School, were given
out.
Christmas Eve and
Communion service will be
held in Lucan United
Church, Thursday evening at
7 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Clandeboye Women's
Institute at their December
meeting also Christmas
remembrances were
delivered to three former
W.I. members, Mary Carter,

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lynn
and family hosted the Lynn
family Christmas on Sunday.
Guests attended from
London, Lucan, Zion and
Nairn . as well as several
from the Clandeboye area.
Welma Hardy enjoyed a
bus tour recently with the
Mita Craig group, to see the
Simcoe Christmas lights and
decorations. The tour in-
cluded Christmas shopping
at a mall at TWsonburg, a
visit to Coyle' factory outlet
and dinner served by e
church group followed by a
guided tour of the Simcoe
Park.
Sam and Nancey Taylor,
Scott and Mary of Swift
Current, Saskatchewan,
have arrived to Apend . the
Christmas seadon with
Nancey's wreaks, Mr. and
Mrs. Wilmer Scott and other
relatives in the area.
Lois and Allen Cun-
ningham returned Friday
from their honeymoon in
New Orleans.
Congratulations! to Gord
and Joanne Hardy on the
arrival of their third
daughter, Lora Lee
December 16 in St. Joseph's
Hospital. A sister for Lisa
and Lindsay.
Present prizes
in literary tests
St. Patrick's School
The Royal Canadian
Legion held annual Remem-
brance Day contests in
which students from St. Par -
trick's School captured 8 or
the 9 prizes. The winnets in
the poem contest were: first
prize Margaret Mitchell. Se-
cond prize was won by a stu-
dent from Biddulph School
and third prize Christine
Giesen. An essay contest
was also held and won by
Dawn Reid, JulieO'Shea and
Tina Capalbo.
In the poster contest the
winners were Tom
Vandenberg, Margaret
MitchellandKaren Lemmon.
The first prize winners
were then entered into area
competition in which
Margaret Mitchell won first
prize for her poem, Dawn
Ried won first for her essay
and Tom Vandenberg first
for his poster.
These first prize winners
will be judged in Windsor to
decide the South Western
Ontario Champions.
Recently Mrs. Maxwell's
class extended their physical
education program to the
Lucan Bowling Lanes with
several parent volunteers
providing the transporta-
tion.
Mrs. Hishon's Grade 1-2
class visited St. Peter's
Cathedral, Victoria Park,
Eldon House to see the
Christmas decorations and
then to St. Joseph's School to
have lunch with Mrs. Anne
Jansen, who taught the
children in Junior
Kindergarten.
After lunch they visited

the city bus depot where
they saw buses being
repaired and had a ride on a
city bus which took them
through the big washer.
Everyone agreed it was a
great day.
December 18, two
teachers from St. Patrick's
School. Mrs. McClure and
Miss Barry, headed a Christ-
mas Celebration which was
comprised of the talent from
the students of St. Patrick's
School. The junior choir
sang a selection of Christ-
mas carols. Miss. Barry's
grade 8 class composed and
read poems to represent the
Christmas story while
students from Mrs.
McClure's grade 2-3 class
dramatized the story.
Mrs. Maxwell's grade 5/6
class presented a play called
"Why The Chimes Rang."
As the grade 8 girls con-
ducted a sing song, an unex-
pected guest appeared none
other than Santa Claus
himself. He also visited St.
Patrick's again on Monday
to deliver treats to the
children.
Mr. and Mrs. Andy
Thompson and Mr. and Mrs.
Wilfred Dixon were among
those attending the Thomp-
son family Christmas din-
ner, at the Shillelagh Sun-
day.

wishes all "A Very Merry
Christmas" and "A Happy
New Year". Christmas
visitors will be too numerous
to list, so will not be writing
until after the New Year.
Lucan Anglicans
The annual service of
Lessons and Carols was held
at Holy Trinity Anglican
Church on the 4th Sunday in
Advent. It was presented by
members of the Sunday
School and selected readers.
As the worshippers arrived
they were greeted by Roscoe
and Marion Hodgins. The
fourth candle in the Advent
Wreath was lit by Larry Hot -
son on behalf of all the
fathers present.
The narrator for the.
pageantwasLoretta Dickson.
The part of God was taken
by Bryan Smith; the woman
in the garden by Kay Egan;
the snake by Rev. Pocock;
Readers of God's Prophetic
Word were Norah Elson,
Andy Van Geel,' Betty
Ankers and Bob Sockett.
The junior choir sang
"Why do Bells for Christmas
Ring". The angel Gabriel
(Ann Hodgins) appeared to
Mary (Christine Blay)
bringing her the news that
God had chosen her to be the
mother of His Son. Joseph
(Mike Gillan) took Mary and
went to Bethlehem to
register, as was required by
the Emperor Augustus, and
while there Jesus is born in a
stable - "there was no room
for them in the inn."
The Good News begins to
spread as the Angels tell the
Shepherds. The Angels:
Cathy Atkinson, Carol
Smith. Heather Smith, An-
drea Van Geel, Julia Van
Geel. Amanda Hotson, and
Erin Haskett. The
Shepherds: Doug Hotson,
Gary Haskett, John Hodgins,
David Pocock, Philip Hardy,
Jason MacDonald, Shane
Gillan and Mike Radcliffe.
The Angels and Shepherds
joined in singing the ever
lovely hymn "Away in a
Manger". An anthem was
then sung by the Senior
Choir entitled "The Holy
Child is Born in a Manger."
Prior to the visit of the Wise
Men (Nathan Blay, Jason
Haskett, and Lawrence
Pocock) the jr. choir sang
"Far in the East". The part
of the Prophet Micha was
taken by Laurie St. Pierre.
In concluding the pageant
the Senior Choir sang, "Now
is Born the Divine Christ
Child." The Junior Choir and
the complete Sunday School
gathered on the chancel
steps and sang out "We Wish
You A Merry Christmas" to
the congregation. All the
singing was under the direc-
tion of our organist and choir
leader, Mrs. Beulah Hardy.

Praise and thanks to God
