On December 11 (Friday)
nine Zurich senior citizens
joined with others from Hen-
sall, Clinton. Goderich and
Blyth on a bus trip to Simcoe
to see the.display of Christ-
mas lights.
Their first stop was at
McDonalds for lunch in
Woodstock then onto Coyles
Factory outlet. where they
were given a tour of the
warehouse, which proved
very interesting. Also
stopped off at Wedge Cheese
House a Fern Lea Flowers in
Delhi.
Then arriving at St. James
United Church Hall for a
delicious roast beef dinner
before the light tour, which
was stated as , the best yet!
Free skating, rides
Thank's to the bean
festival committee and
proceeds for allowing free
ice skating time for all the
tour of lights
children every Saturday
afternoon and to those giving
free sleigh rides to
everyone. " a real treat"
sponsored by the Chamber of
Commerce.

Mrs. Joy Hogg returned
home on Saturday from a
delightful 11 day vacation to
Vancouver. She went by
plane to stay with her
daughter, Roberta Hogg.
An enjoyable evening was
had by the Knights of Colum-
bus and their wives last
Thursday evening when they
gathered together for a
Christmas party and dance
at their hall in St. Columban.

Leonard Merner's 70th birth-
day on Tuesday December
15 at their home on the 14th
concession.
We're all glad to hear that
Elroy Desjardine is coming
along so well and improving
rapidly from his stroke, that
he is now able to spend the
weekends at. home and for
the holdiays. Drop in to pay
him a visit.
The Brownies held a
Christmas party at their
meeting on December 8.
Then went to the rest home
on Tuesday December 15 to
sing Christmas carols to the
residents.

newlyweds. Richard O'Brien
and Cindie Reece who were
married on Saturday
December 19 at the United
Church. The groom is the
son of Eugene and Shirley
O'Brien Zurich and the bride
is the daughter of Mr. and

Christmas party on Thurs-

Christmas Sunday was
observed in the United
Church Sunday morning and
the service was one of in-
spiration in both message
and music. Rev. Crowe con-
--tinued on the subject "The
Word became a human being
and lived in our midst".
George Tomes was the lay
reader. The children were
told a story.
The vocal solo "The Straw
Carol" by Faye Blair and
the anthem "Carol the Joy"
by the choir were ap-
preciated by all in atten-
dance.
Mary Lou Tasko was the
piano accompanist and the
offertory music was a piano -
organ duet "Bells over Jor-
dan" by Mary Lou and Mr.
Gill. If you will believe in
Jesus Christ as your
Saviour, then you will know
what Christmas really is.

Hirtzel and guests were Mr.

Mr. and Mrs. Bev Hirtzel
and family. Lucan, Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Hirtzel and family,
Exeter, and Mr. and Mrs.
Tom Steeper, Hensall.
proceeded to the chancel to
light the candles to impress
the children with the coming
of the light of the world.
Finally, they closed their
eyes and went to the rear of
the church.
Rev. Smith wanted the
children to feel the
difference in darkness and
light. Then they offered a
prayer at the manger scene.
Mrs. Wayne Carroll accom-
panied the singing of hymns.
This was followed by a
program in the parish hall
with Mrs. Hugh Davis,'Sun-
day School leader as1
chairlady.
The 16 children took part I
with songs, readings and!
Mrs. Ron Carroll read the
scripture story of Jesus'
birth. Santa Claus made his
yearly visit and pot luck
dinner followed.

78th birthday

Mrs. Doris Sweitzer and
Mr. and Mrs. Milton
Sweitzer returned last
Thursday after spending a
week in Welland. Doris
visited at her mother's Mrs.
Elsie 'Comfort, and Milt and
Eva with Mr. and Mrs. Gar -
son Brady. On the evening of
December 12. the family
planned a surprise birthday
party for Mrs. Comfort who
is "78 years young", and was
held at the home of her son
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Comfort.
Family and grandchildren
attending numbered 56.
Various games were played
in the social time followed
with a smorgasbord lunch
and birthday cake. Spending
the week end and attending
the party from here were
Marilyn and Jack Pickering,
and grandchildren Bonnie
and Mike Erickson and Jim
and Marg Sweitzer.
