Hensall Institute hear about historical group
Mrs. Doris Batkin of Clin-
ton, Secretary -treasurer of
the Huron County Historical
Society was guest speaker at
the December meeting of
the Hensall Women's
Institute on December.
She told how the Historical
Society came into being in
1964 and about the beginning
of the County Museum at
Goderich, now considered
one of the best museums in
Canada.
Meetings of the Historical
Soeiety are held all over the
County and the articles read
at these meetings are
published annually. Many
valuable and irreplaceable
documents have been
collected by the Society and
are now stored in the vault in
the new county library at
Goderich.
History has been made
since day one. The pioneers
kept notes as they travelled
the Huron Tract and their
buildings resembled the
architect of the "Old Coun-
try". In 1947, Lady
Tweedsmuir asked the
Women's Institutes to
record the histories of their
villages and most branches
now continue this work in
their Tweedsmuir history
books. The histories are
microfilmed and stored in
local libraries.
President. Mrs. Joyce
Pepper, conducted the
meeting and opened with a
poem. "Help yourself to
Happiness". Thirteen
members answered the roll

Rev. Stanley McDonald
conducted the service and
preached on "The Messiah
Comes".
At the time of Jesus birth,
John the Baptist, his
followers and the Jewish
population were all looking
for a ruler, a king, someone
who would reawaken the
law. But Jesus' only law was
love and his whole life was
witness to this. Each of us,
by the way we live should
portray a little Messiah. At
Christmas time, in our
buiness it is very easy to
shut Christ out. Let us all let
Him in this Christmas.
The children were remind-
ed that Christmas Day is
Jesus' birthday and to make
room by remembering
Jesus.
The third Advent candle
