Activity Centre in Ailsa Craig a busy spot with euchre play

The Activity Centre was
the place to be Monday af-
ternoon for tasty desserts
served by the committee.
Following this, eight tables
of euchre were in play.
Winners were ladies' high -
Mrs. Nola McEwen; low,
Mrs. Laura Chapman;
men's high, Mrs. Marjory
Davidson; low, Mrs. Roy
Morton; lone hands, Jack
Rosser. For further in-
formation about events at
the Centre, kindly check the
calendars in the local stores.
Twenty-one residents of
the Craigweil Garden
apartments enjoyed a pot
luck dinner Tuesday noon at
the Activity Centre. Ken
Drudge, administrator, and
the residents met for a brief
business session.
Winners at the "Happy
Gang" euchre were - ladies'
high, Miss Sybil Stephenson;
low, Mrs. Evan Hodgins;
men's high, Evan Hodgins;
low, Carmon Stewart; lone
hands (men), Miss Belle
Stevenson; lone hands
(ladies), Mrs. Marj Steeper.
An exchange of Christmas
gifts followed. Tea and
Christmas cake was en-
joyed. The next euchre is
December 30 at 1:30 p.m.
Ideal winter weather
prevailed for the annual
Santa Claus parade Satur-
day morning. Taking first
prize in the floats were the
Poplar Hill Lions' club.
Santa distributed 'goodies' to
the young fry.
UCW meas
The December 8 meeting
of the Ailsa Craig U.C.W.
was a Christmas pot luck
dinner. There was a good
turnout of members and
visitors and we were most
pleased to welcome the
C.G.I.T. girls and members
of the Junior Choir.
Following the delicious
meal we were entertained by
the Junior Choir under the
musical direction of the Mrs.
Chas. Harmer and Mrs.
Bruce Karr.
Mrs. Gary Tweddle gave a
slide presentation of famous
paintings on the birth of
Jesus. There we a scriptures
from the BibleAhich related
to these slides and it was
very interesting.
The U.C.W. executive
ladies presented a play
called "Christmas Has Been
Cancelled" which evolved
around a typical family
caught up in the
preparations for Christmas.
The Williams family had
almost forgotten the true
meaning of Christmas.
The offering was received
and dedicated. The
secretary and treasurer
gave their reports.
Mrs. Bill Sutherland read
a newsletter from the
Presbytery representative,
Mrs. Marjorie Park, who
attended the special
meeting.
The annual meeting of
Middlesex Presbyterial is
February 11 at Wesley -Knox
United Church, London. The
U.C.W. Conference is April
20, 21 at Trinity United
Church, •Ingersoll. The
speaker ' will be the
moderator.
We were asked to boycotte
Nescafe products and
consider sending parcels to
Zaire where there are
many Angola refugees.
We have one youth from
our church going to Toc
Alpha this year. A motion
was nide to pay for her
registration and ask her to
present a report to the
church after the trip.
Mrs. Chas. Harmer
reported that over 100 carrot
puddings were made and
sold by our U.C.W. She also
gave a nominating com-
mittee report.
The Ailsa Craig Sunday
School Christmas program is
planned for Sunday,
December 20 at 8 p.m.
Mrs. Murray Procter
would like all year end
reports for the annual report
to be in at the first of
Januar} It is most im-
portant that she receives
them early since the annual
meeting is January 17, 1982.
Mrs. Procter gave a year-
end summary of the
U.C.W.'s activities and Mrs.
Lewis Slater, treasurer,
gave a financial summary.
Please note that the next
U.C.W. meeting has been re-
scheduled to January 5 due
to a banquet being catered
on the setons tuesuay of the
month.

Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Rosser entertained the
Rosser family for Christmas
dinner. Ideal weather
prevailed allowing the young
fry to enjoy the newly fallen
snow.
Birthday greetings are
extended to Mrs. (Eli)
Florence Rees, (a resident of
Strathmere Lodge,
Strathroy, and formerly of
the village) who will be 90,
December 21; also to Mrs.
(Ervine) Margaret Barnes,
Craigholme, who celebrates
this month.
Miss Wilma McIntosh
entertained her mother and
brother and family of
Arkona, sisters and families
to a Christmas party on
Sunday afternoon.

Wednesday evening the
ladies of the Women's
Institute met at the hall for a
pot luck Christmas meeting.
After the first course. music
was provided by Anita,
Jeramy and Dwayne
Finkbeiner. Lisa and
Anthony Glavin gave
recitations.
The motto, Receiving - the
highest form of giving was
presented by Dolores Shap -
ton, Eleanor Roeszler, Cora
Wein. Thelma Finkbeiner
and Mary Glavin were in
charge of the programme.
Business was conducted
by president Anne Cottel.
Dessertwasthen enjoyed and
Marion Kerslake of Exeter
demonstrated how she
creates gingerbread houses.
A drawing made for the
houses was won by .U.loria
Martin. Erma Kruger and
Louise Wein..Jeane Dearing
was the winner of the baby's
sweater set draw.
Santa finally arrived and
distributed the mystery
sister gifts. Jean Neil thank-
ed the programme com-
mittee. Mrs. Kerslake and
the children for their part in
the meeting.
Sunday morning the
United Church Sunday
School presented their
Christmas programme.
Joyce Preszcator provided
the piano accompaniment
for the songs. A Sin Parade
by the entire Sunday School
opened the pageant.
Narrator. LeAnne Stewart
read the Scripture. Mary
was played by Ruth Martin.
the Angel Gabriel by Scott
Miller. Carolyn Pritchard
portrayed the messenger
and Joseph was played by
Steve Lightfoot. The testa-
ment class told how "The
Inn Was Full". Kindergarten
presented a Christmas
Acrostic.
"No Room in the Inn" was
sung by the Testaments,
Junior and Sr. high classes.
Nursery. Kindergarten.
Testaments and Junior class
sang Away In a Manger. The
scripture of the account of
the Shepherds was read by
Julie Hendrick.
Rick Hamilton read the
story of the Wisemen as
found in Matthew. Allan
Cottel was the Poor Boy.
The leaders closed the
programme by asking the
question "The Choice is
Yours".
Thank Yous were extend-
ed to all those whc helped
and a special presentation
was made to Harry
Schroeder by Mrs. Allan
Finkbeiner following the
presentation of gifts to the
children. lunch was served
in the Sunday School rooms.
Approximately 265 people
attended the concert.
The Crediton and District
Social Club held their Christ-
mas dance Saturday even-
ing. Several spot dances
were enjoyed. Winners were
Doris and Allan Pfaff. Bill
Ross and Wanda Reynolds
and Dennis Maguire and
Lois Hodgins. Music was
provided by Country
