They gained an even split, winning one against Hensall, losing to Parkhill and posting a tie with St. Marys. The locals stuck with Parkhill for the first and last periods in Sunday's game, but the home team scored twice in the middle to take a 5-3 victory. John McDermid and Ian Munroe replied for the Hensall crew. In a 5-5 tie with St. Marys, the local midgets battled back from deficits on three occasions and were trailing 3-1 after the first period. Chris VanGerwen notched a pair of tallies to lead the attack, with singles going to Dave Hayter, Scott Brintnell and Steve Batten. Mike Tiedeman had two assists to lead in that department and recording one each were Brent Atthill, Brent Dawson, Randy Ford and Brintnell. Pea woos toss It was a case of too little and too late when the Exeter pee wees hosted St. Marys, Wednesday. The visitors scored six times before Exeter hit the sheet and posted a 6-3 win. Exeter's three goals came in the last five minutes of the game. Dan McLean picked up two of them and Jon O'Connor notched the other. All three were unassisted. Bantams triumph The bantms overcame an early one -goal deficit and skated to a 3-1 win over St. Marys in the second game of Wednesday's triple -header at the rec centre. Stewart Chettleburgh got the equalizer late in the second and Sean Whiteford and Steve Gould picked up the winner and insurance marker respectively. Recording assists were Scott Lovie, Chettleburgh, Chris Tiedeman and Gould. Atoms los• In exhibition play, Sunday, the Hensall atoms scored a 4- 3 win over Exeter at the rec centre. Jason Imanse had a pair to pace the attack with singles going to John Rooseboom and John Bell. Scoring for Exeter were Peter Lerikos, David O'Connor and Scott Wedlake. In atom houseleague play, Exeter and Clinton battled to a 1-1 draw, Saturday. Jason Heywood scored for the home team. Badminton coach to Ontario team Pat Rowe, a physical education teacher at' South Huron and school badminton team coach has been named manager of the Ontario badminton team that will compete in the 1983 Canada Winter Games in Chicoutimi, Quebec. Rowe, who has been on the executive of the Western Ontario Badminton Association for some years and a representative at the Ontario Association level, is pleased about her recent appointment. "I have mixed feelings ecstasy and panic", she quipped Monday. As assistant to team coach Jamie McKee, a former Canadian champion and world -ranked player, she will be responsible for arranging practice locations, travel schedules and accommodations as well as doing public relations for the team. Marys Mohawks beat Saints In South Huron hockey league play at the South Huron Rec Centre Thursday night, the Exeter Hawks scored a lopsided 11-2 victory over the Centralia College Saints. In action this week, the Saints will meet the Cen- tralia Marauders at the Stephen arena tonight, Wednesday and the Mohawks will be at home to the Hensall Sherwoods at the South Huron Rec Centre, Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. Friday, the Sherwoods will be at the Stephen arena to take on the Marauders and Sunday the Mohawks travel to Zurich to meet the - Buckeyes. Six Exeter goals in the first period practically put the game in the win column for the Mohawks, Thursday. Tourney set at Stephen A rec hockey tournament has been scheduled for the next two weeks at the Stephen township arena at Huron Park. Arena manager Frank Funston has lined up eight teams which will start first round action on Monday night, December 14. The four winners will meet in semi- final play two nights later in the 'A' division while the four losers meet the same night to decide finalists for the 'B' championship. The championships will be decided Monday, December 21 with the 'B' final at 8 p.m. followed by the 'A' cham- pionship contest. Three rec league teams from Huron Park will be joined by clubs from Exeter, Dashwood, Zurich, Parkhill and Mount Forest. Team championship trophies will be presented by reeve Doug Russell and deputy -reeve Allan Walper of Stephen township while the most valuable player in each division will receive a $25 merchandise voucher. The lone score for the Saints in the opening 20 minutes of play came from the stick of Don Bellamy on a pass from Laurie Eckhardt. In the second period the Mohawks increased their lead to 10-2. Moody, Ryan and Underwood each upped their game goal totals to two and captain Mike Anstett added a single score. The final score for the Saints came as Doug Johnston completed a three- way passing combination with Mark Thompson and Joe Schuermann, In the closing session, Dave Underwood completed the Exeter scoring as he converted a pass from Rick Moody.
