Church news
The Rev. Elwood Morden
was in charge of the morning
worship for the second Sun
day in Advent at the United
('hurch.
Entitling his sermon
('hristmas comes unex-
pectedly" the minister said
-It makes it very difficult
for us to realize that Christ-
mas is so near at hand, any
day can be Christmas,
referring to the song in the
musical comedy "Mame" I
need a little Christmas right
now". No man can be sure of
the day or the hour of God's
coming. When Jesus was
born., the Wisernen saw a
star and an Angel appeared
to the shepherds. this unex-
pected happening changed
their lives.
God breaks through udex-
pectedly and changes our
lives. also when we reach
out to someone in need we
are likely to feel that God is
with us. Jesus Christ quietly
emerged from a humble
beginning, Christmas can
come to us unexpectedly
when we receive Him as our
Savior and as our King.
Prepare ye the wayof the
Lord.
The ceremony of lighting
the second candle in the ad-
vent wreath was performed
by Becky Bryan in memory
of Mary and Joseph, this was
followed by the Rev. Morden
reading the Magnificat.
In the children's story the
minister explained the sym-
bol of the candle as
representing Jesus as the
"Light of the World, and
saying that Martin Luther
was the first one to put
candles on a Christmas tree.
Two baskets of flowers
were placed in the church
from the funeral of John
Campbell of Sparta, in lov-
ing memory by his family.
