Saturday evening the
Granton Volunteer Fire
Department held their an-
nual banquet and dance at
the Mason's Hall. Prior to
the dinner a rescue unit van,
fully equipped, was
presented to Wilson
Hodgins, reeve of the
Township of Biddulph by
Val. Middleton, president of
the Department.
The following courses
have been taken by the
Volunteer Firemen of Gran-
ton. First aid, 20 members;
Cardiac Pulmanary
Resuscitation C.P.R., 18
members; extradition, eight
members. The department
consists of a chief, deputy
chief. two captains and 24
men.
The work on the van was
done by the Granton
Volunteer Firemen and fun-
ding to purchase and outfit
it, was through the proceeds
from dances and an auction
sale. Clare McRobert is the
sec. tres. of the dept.
Following asumptuous hot
beef dinner and home made
pie for dessert, put on by the
ladies of Court Valentine
C.O.F., the rest of the even-
ing was spent dancing to the
music of B & L Stereo.

Victor Kop performed the
ceremony of lighting the
first candle in the Advent
Wreath which denoted Life
Everlasting, symbolized by
the holly in the wreath.
In his story to the children
the minister explained about
the star and what it sym-
bolized.
Sunday School attendance
awards were presented by
Superintendent Mrs. Leroy
Bryan,to the following
members. Frances Harrett
2nd pin; Teddy Mills 3rd pin;
Ginger McCall 1st bar; and
Heidi Hayden 3rd bar.
Flowers were placed in
the church from the funeral
of Mrs. Wm. Jarman in lov-
ing memory by her niece
Mr. Emerson Wallis.
At St. Thomas Anglican
Church the Rev. Greg Smith
was the celebrant of the
Eucharent Celebration of
the Season of Advent. In the
children's time the Rector
performed the blessing of
the Advent Wreath and the
lighting of the first candle.
The Advent song "The
King of Glory" was sung by
the junior choir accom-
panied by the Rector on his
guitar and Mrs. Ron Hardie
at the piano. The Epistle of
the Day was read by Helen
Herbert and the Gospel by
Rev.. Smi
Women's Institute news
Members of the Granton
W.I. visited and entertained
the residents of Craigholme
at •Ailsa Craig on Tuesday
afternoon November 24.
Everyone enjoyed a sing -a-
long with Mrs. Chas. Gowan
at the piano, some readings
by Mrs. C. Lewis, Mrs. Don
Roloson and Mrs. Percy
Hodgins. concluding with
some favorite hymns.
A pleasant time of visiting
followed with refreshments.
On the way home to Granton
the ladies took a few
minutes to drop in at the
Craft Shop run by the Crest
Home.

At the United Church the
Rev. Elwood Morden con-
ducted the service for the
first Sunday in Advent, and
entitled his sermon"Dimen-
sions of Advent". We tend to
forget and are carried away
with our own ambitions"

At the Granton Communi-
ty Bible Church Pastor
Fretz taught from Ezekiel
chapter 20. This chapter
along with many others in
the Bible teaches that God is
a convenant keeping God.
God's promises cannot fail
whether they were made to
the Jewish nation or to those
who would believe in Jesus
Christ as their Savior.
Master Tom Hack and
Master David Jenken led in
Takinghissermonfrom the
Epistle the Rector dealt
with the ten com-
mandments, saying, If you
love your fellowmen, you
have carried out the com-
mandments followed by the
communion of the people
and the blessing of the
children.
A very successful bazaar
was held in the church hall
on Saturday atternoon.
There was a number of
Christmas craft items for
sale. the usual handmade ar-
ticles. such as knitted wear,
sewing and as always lots
of home baking. Next Sun-

C.G.I.T. news
The C.G.I.T. members and
their leaders Mrs. R. Harloff
and Mrs. G. McRobert
visited and entertained the
residents of the Wildwood
Nursing Home near St.
Marys on November 29.
Each girl took a young
friend with her, as children
were welcome. The enter-
tainment took the form of
skits, piano solos and a hymn
sing.
The group brought treats
with them such as cookies
and other goodies.
Happy Gang Christmas
dinner
A number of the Happy
Gang and their friends en-
joyed a delicious turkey
dinner catered to by Unit (2)
of the U.C.W. on November
25. Mrs. James Kerr presid-
ed.
Following the dinner a
friendly game of euchre and
crokinole was enjoyed. Hap-
py Birthday greetings were
sung for members with
birthdays in November and
December. They were the
following members, George
Round. Nora Wissel,
Wreatha Burnett, Elsie
Dann, and Eileen Summers.
There will be no meeting
of the Happy Gang in
December.
Medway Euchre club
The Medway Euchre Club
met at thehome of Mrs. Jean
Donley. Prize winners were
the following members:
men's high score, Cliff
McRobert: lone hands,
Chester McComb; low
score. Jim Kerr; ladies high
score. Charlotte Kerr; lone
hands. Ethel Lewis; low
score. Susan McComb.
A get well card was signed•
by everyone for Clara
Hodgins who is a patient in
Victoria Hospital, South St.
Campus London.
Forester news
Congratulations to
Dorothy Hern on being
chosen Forester of the year
at the Western Ontario
Provincial Assembly held at
the Ramada Inn in London
on November 20-21. Sister
Hern is a member of Gran -
ton's Court Valentine.
Court Valentine was also
responsible for the "In
Memoriam Service" at the
Assembly on Friday even-
ing. Fourteen members
wearing red degree gowns
with white collars each
carrying a lighted candle
and a white chrysanthemum,
formed a semi circle around
the draped altar. Rev. Bro.
Stan MacDonald High Court
Chaplain opened the service
with prayer.
Following the reading of
the names of former
members who had passed
on from the Scroll by Sec.
Bro. Vidal Mills, the sisters
each read a short obituary
and placed their flower in a
vase on the altar. Sister
Doris Spence accompanied
by Sister Marianne Kennedy
on the piano, favored with
two appropriate Satred
songs.
On Saturday evening at the
banquet, a cheque for
$4700.00 was presented to the
High Chief Ranger Bro.
Gilbert Short from the
assembly, for cancer
research. another cheque for
$4125.00 was presented to
Homer McKay Chairman of
St. Marys Hospital Board,
by Bro. Harvey Anderson as
a donation towards the cost
of a Surgibed for the
hospital, from the W.O.P.A.
assembly.
The money for this project
was raised by all the courts
as a joint effort.
On Tuesday evening
members of Court Carlton
men's lodge and Court
Valentine met at St. Marys
Memorial Hospital to have
their pictures taken with the
Surgibed. Nurse Inger Lem -
mon gave a very informative
demonstration of this piece
of equipment and showed all
its advantages, and later
took the members on a tour
of the recently opened new
wing of the hospital.
