Huron -Perth Presbytery
Times -Advocate, December 2, 1981 Page 9
Outreach is partner in global society
"The United Church
cannot be exclusively in-
volved in evangelism," Eric
King told Huron -Perth
Presbytery of the United
Church. "Is faith complete
without justice?" he
questioned his audience and
then stated that for him it is
not an option.
King was introduced by
Rev. Charles Swan, Walton,
as part of the report on
World Outreach. The court
assembled In Exeter United
Church, Tuesday.
Appointed to a new
position with World
Outreach of the National
Church the speaker said he
was an animator, a person
who animates people,
committees and
presbyteries.
He explained the new focus
of World Outreach - to
respond to requests for
missionary skills and to
work in partnership with
churches in other countries.
"We are partners in a global
society." he stated.
King also suggested that
we can learn from our
partners, too. They ask
about the strange division
between our faith and our
works, - our relationships
with the church and with the
community.
New Zealand exchange
Rev. Maurice Francis,
Thamesview, told the court
about his 12 -month exchange
in New Zealand. He em-
phasized ecumenical ex-
periences with Catholics and
various Protestant
denominations. He found
that "the froth of the
charismatic movement has
settled down to a deeper
spirituality."
He told of one church that
built several apartments
where families could spend
periods of time to sort things
out and be given help.
In his report on Steward-
ship Rev. Roy Babetock,
Stratford, indicated that he
was optimistic about Huron -
Perth reaching the 1981 goal
for M&S. Individual charges
will be asked to accept an
increase of 7 to 10.5 percent.
Jean Sykes, the Resource
Centre manager announced
that three new film strips
had been added: Christian
Expressions, Christian
Traditions and one com-
paring the Christmas stories
of Mathew and Luke.
The manager also in-
dicated that the centre,
located In Mitchell, will be
open the first Saturday of
each month from 1 to 4. This
is made passible by ad-
ditional volunteers. The
annual Christmas tea will be
held December 9, 2.4 and 7-9.
To host conference
Huron -Perth Presbytery
will be host to the annual
meeting of London Con-
ference the last week in May.
Inkspot finally shows
"Is it in yet?" The ques-
tion .that had been on
everyone's lips at South
Huron for the last few weeks
was answered Tuesday,
when. after lengthy produc-
tion delays. the 600 copies of
the 1981 yearbook were dis-
tributed.
This year's Inkspot. which
used "The Circus" as its
theme. represents many
hours of work by editor
Sheila Eisenchink and her
staff. With a budget of close

to $7000. this year's book was
the first in several years to
be financial selfsupporting,
according to present editor,
Brenda Brunzlow.
The mistakes and
omissions that dharacterize
student productions aside,
this Inkspot is one of the best
in recent years. The pictures
are of better quality,
although the subject matter
is rather repetitive: there
are only so many ways to
shoot people sitting in the
hall.
However. as Sheila
Eisenchink noted in her
editor's message. "A year-
book... is the ideal place for
recapturing some of those
precious memories."
Stratford Central will be the
host church. The theme will
be working together for a
new society.
Charles Gates outlined
preparations to date for the
conference while Presbytery
Chairman, Rev. John
Roberts encouraged input
from congregations. Con-
ference officer Maureen
Mayne besides outlining her
new responsibilities
suggested that local
congregations should study
the theme before the annual.
In his report on Mission in
Canada Rev. Bob Scott,
Londesboro, urged
congregations to study the
new lottery kit that was
available in order that the
church might have a unified
point of view. The court
charged the committee with
a method of evaluating
Sunday School curriculums,
particularly in regard to
racism, sexism and
theology.
The court deferred
retirement one year for Rev.
George Ball, Milverton and
approved the transfer of
Rev. Rae Grant from
Listowel to Wingham.
The Presbytery budget for
1' : 2 was reduced by $2,634
with assessments remaining
at $2.15 per resident mem-
ber. Mileage rates were set
at 18 cents for next year. It
was announced that
minimum salaries for United
Church ministers had been
increased by 11 percent.
