In the past, the VON salaries have been kept at a level as close to parity as possible with. hospital nurses, although community health nurses' salaries have never been equal with that of hospital nurses. Not unlike the rest of the country, the Perth -Huron VON branch is finding that with escalating costs, there wilt undoubtedly be a need to increase the 1982 fee per visit in order to continue to provide the quality of care that the public is ac- customed to. The publicity and educa- tion committee is sending letters to invite requests to speak to public groups and service clubs toincrease the awareness of the VON, The nominating com- mittee too has been busy with its program to orien- tate new board members who will, in turn, relate the role of the VON to the public. The branch is active- ly seeking prospective board members from both coun- ties, especially Huron, who are willing to devote a bit of time to the management of the VON Meetings are held monthly in areas of both counties to interest and ac- commodate new members. kd COSMETICS J ANN BA` AM • facials • Natural Skin Care Products • Eyelash & Eyebrow Tinting • Perfumes • Cosmetics • Make-up Applications • Wax Hair Removal • Ear Piercing • Make-up Lessons • Eyebrow Shaping 20% OFF ALL GIFT CERTIFICATES FOR CHRISTMAS GIVING 199 William St. Exeter 235-2225 • PROVINCIAL HONOURS — Being awarded provincial honours for completing 12 4-H clubs were: (back from left) Debra Galloway, Crediton I; Sandra Datars, Dashwood 11 Kathy Allister, Grand Bend I; (front, from left) Elsie Vandeworp, Dashwood II and Rosemary Gielen, Crediton II. Authority books on The Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority has just finished distributing complimentary copies of a book to all schools and libraries in its area of jurisdiction. The book is a novel for children entitled Search for the Secret Fossil and is written by Jean Davies Wright. The Conservation Authority published the book earlier this year with finan- cial assistance from the On- tario Petroleum Institute. The book has been dis- tributed to area schools and libraries because the Conservation Authority hopes that the story will con- tribute to an awareness and appreciation of the fossil resources of the Arkona - Rock Glen - Thedford area. which is also the setting for the book. The book's author. Jean Davies Wright. is a remarkable grandmother of nine of who returned to un- iversity in her 50's and earn- ed first a Bachelor's degree in geology and later a Masters of Science degree. Mrs. Wright. who lives in Michigan during the winter months. has spent her summers since 1936 at a cot- tage near Grand Bend. She began collecting fossils along the Ausable River and became fascinated with her hobby. Eventually she turned her collection of fossils over to the University of Michigan and became a Research Collaborator at the Museum of Paleontology, University of Michigan. In the book a young boy Peter joins his scientist provides fossils grandfather in the search for a new previously unrecord- ed fossil. The reader shares in Peter's sense of discovery as the fascinating world of fossil hunting is revealed through the pages of the book. Copies of Search for the Secret Fossil are available from the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority's of- fice on Thames Road West in Exeter. Hardcover copies are $8.50 while softcover copies cost $6 00. The book would make an excellent Christmas gift for children in the 9-13 years age bracket For more informa- tion call 235-2610. ,narnoroe*nesa a►avnea.+!c+ 3 3 t 3 Skills `k‘9 n' 1.0 Pre Christmas t Sale 3 10% off 3 Christmas decorations, Macrame, Stain Glass, Figurine Candles.
