Third period splurge
Buckeyes get close win over Marauders
Four third period goats
allowed the Zurich Buckeyes
to squeeze out a 5-4 victory
over the Centralia
Marauders in South Huron
league play at the Zurich
arena Sunday.
Six of the nine goals came
in the final 20 minutes of
nlay after the Marauders
were in front 2-1 after two
periods of play.
The next game for the
Buckeyes will be Sunday
when they play host to the
Hensall Sherwoods.
In the first period, Pat
Bedard opened the scoring
for the Buckeyes on a three-
way effort with Gerald
Weido and Mike Clarke at
the 15 minute mark and with
only 51 seconds left Cec
Nickles converted a pass
from Rich Lather to tie the
score.
Nickles notched the only
goal of the second period on
passes from Lather and
Perry Knee.
The four Zurich goals in
the third period came in Tess
than seven minutes near the
end of the game after Mark
Cronyn had put the
Marauders ahead 3-1 on a
pass from Lather his third of
four assists in the game.
At 9:34 John Stanley
scored for the Buckeyes on a

later Bedard tied the score
on a pass from Wayne Thiel.
At 15:23 Scott Consitt
counted the go-ahead goal
for the Buckeyes and a
minute later Wayne Thiel
scored what proved to be the
winner on a solo dash.
In the last three minutes
of play. Mark Cronyn fired
his second goal of the night
for the Marauders on a pass
from Rich Lather for his
fourth assist, but, that ended
the Centralia scoring.
Only nine minor penalties
were called by referee
George Tryon and Tom
Miller with five going to the
Marauders.

Atoms get .draw
in light schedule
Exeter's minor hockey
teams had a light schedule in
Shamrock league action this
week. The atoms were the
only team scheduled and
they posted a 1-1 draw with
Ilderton at the rec centre,
Sunday.
Laurie Chalmers scored
on a play with Doug Clark to
get Exeter the tie after

Steven Dubarry led the
Stephen scoring attack with
six goals. Adding two goals
apiece were Jamie Drake,
Darryl Johnson and Brent
Lammie. Getting assists
were Drake, Kevin Glavin
and Aaron Savage.
In a girls ringette game,
Listowel defeated the
Stephen team 10-2. Christen
Smith and Stephanie Jones
were the Stephen scorers
with Jones and Tara Savage
providing assists.
A very exciting and close
pee wee game saw the home
Stephen club edge Alma -
Logan 6-5. Jerry Lamport
was the top goal getter for
the winners with a four goal
effort and one assist. Mike
McCallum registered two
goals to complete the scoring
as well as adding three
assists.
In the playmaking
department Steve Watson
picked up three assists and
Dave McDonald and Lee
Watt each helped on one
goal.
The Stephen bantams were
blanked 8-0 by Alma -Logan.
The Stephen midgets downed
Zurich 5-3 on goals by Bob
Rook, Leslie Sewell, .Tony
Jones, Allan Brand and Colln
Tripp. Picking up assists
were Rook, Sewell and Jeff
Slaght.
In mid -week games, the
Stephen atoms lost 6-0 to
Hensall and 28-0 to Clinton
while the bantams lost 6-1 to
Exeter. The lone Stephen
goal was notched by Mike
Moffatt.

Ilderton had jumped into a
quick lead in the first period.
The local bantams and
midgets had exhibition
games. Wednesday. with
each winning. The bantams
thumped Huron Park 6-1
after spotting the visitors an
early lead on a goal by Mike
Moffatt.
Steve Gould fired three for
the winners with singles go-
ing to Sean Whiteford,
George Pratt and Chris
Tiedeman. Whiteford and
John Wells recorded two
assists each with singles go-'
ing to Tim Easterbrook,
Pratt and Bill Fisher.
The midgets skated to a 3-
1 win over Zurich, with the
visitors again hitting the
scoreboard first on a tally by
Kevin Lavery.
Exeter evened the count
on a goal by Ahmad Osman
and then got singles from
Chris VanGerwen and Scott
Brintnell to seal the victory.
Brent Atthill had two
assists.
Pee weer win
In a game not reported
last week. the Exeter pee
wees posted a 5-3 win over
Lucan for their third
straight triumph.
Ron Loucks. Brian Quinn,
Paul Mellecke. Jon O'Con-
nor and Steve Anderson fired
markers for the winners.
Replying for Lucan were
Jim McLellan. Mike
Dillabough and Don Hugill.
