Craigholme residents entertained by Riverside WI
By ALICE DICKENS
Riverview Women's
Institute merhbers visited
Wednesday afternoon with
the Craigholme residents.
Toe -tapping music by The
Ilderton Entertainers (Mr.
and Mrs. Walter Douglas,
Elgin and Miss Eleanor
Charlton) was greatly en-
joyed. Tea and cookies were
served to close another plea-
sant afternoon.
The Riverview Women's
Institute met at the Masonic
hall on November 3 with 21
present. Mrs. Chas. Harmer
presided in the absence of
the president, Mrs. Rosser.
The Institute Ode was sung
followed by the repeating of
the Mary Stewart Collect.
Mrs. Harmer read a story
written by Erma Bombeck
which was quite amusing
and interesting. Minutes
were read and approved.
Mrs. Don Hughes gave the
treasurer's report.
The scripture reading was
tcken by Mrs. Roy Morton
from Psalm 119, verses
referring to the law and
commandents which David
was very concerned about.
This fit in nicely with the
topic "The Police and the
Law".
Mrs. Marie Campbell
followed up that theme with
a paper on the Ten Com-
mandments and laws
regarding today's living,
mentioning our policemen as
our friends.
An excellent discussion in-
volved everyone, especially
those who had been at the
town hall the previous Tues-
day to hear two OPP's talks
to the citizens of Ailsa Craig.
They told of different ways
by which the people can help
policemen and make their
job more meaningful. They
explained how a
neighbourhood watch could
be set up to deter crime. A
number of stickers were on
display such as
Neighbourhood Watch; Stop.
Mrs. Wm. Sutherland gave
a report on crewel em-
broidery and showed several
samples.
The meeting closed with 0
Canada and the Institute
Grace. Mrs. Stuart
McCallum and committee
served a tasty lunch.
