Senior girls lose
first in cage final
The ball left Cindy Down's
hands just a fractions of a
second too late. The buzzer
sounded and the South Huron
senior girls' basketball lost a
39-37 decision to Stratford
Central Ramblers, Thurs-
day. in the first game of the
best of three Huron -Perth
final.
"Two points! We know
we're better." said fifth
year guard Ronnalee Bogart
after the loss. However, the
Panthers did not play up to
form that saw them go
through the regular season
with a perfect record that in-
cluded a 45-38 win over
Stratford. According to
coach 'Terry O'Rourke, the
Panthers' nemesis was poor
shooting.
"We could have put them
away early. if we had com-
pleted half of our plays",
said O'Rourke.
South Huron also lacked
composure at the charity
line as they missed 15 foul
shots in the important se-
cond half stretch, for a
depressing 31 .1 average.
"Maybe they're just used
to winning the big game,"
O'Rourke postulated. Deb
Taylor had 15 points and
Maja Gans scored 14 points
in the game. which was
paved in Stratford.
The Panthers. with the ad-
dition of some offensive ad-
justments. hoped to even the
series with a win, yesterday,

track until the second half,

when they lost 43-37 in over-
time to Sarnia Central at a
tournament in Tillsonburg.
The count was deadlocked
at 37 points after regulation
time tlut the -Centaurs scored
three unanswered baskets in
the extra period for the win.
Maja Gans led South
Huron with 14 points despite
fouling out early in the third
quarter. Lori Brand pulled
down nine rebounds as well
as scoring eight points.
