Discontinue grants
Government to assist winter trail clubs
The Ontario government
will provide some measure
of assistance to winter trail
clubs for the maintenance
and development of snow-
mobile and cross-country ski
trails for another year.
Natural Resourses Minister
Alan Poper announced.
The province's snow-
mobile and cross-country ski
trail clubs were recently
notified by his ministry that
the grants, offered since
1974, were now being discon-
tinued
"We believed the clubs
were sufficiently established
and that there was an exten-
sive enough trail network for
us to justifiably discontinue
the program. But it is realiz-
ed that some clubs did not
have enough advance notice
and some assistance will
continue for one more
year." Mr. Poper said.
This will give all clubs
enough lead time so that by
next winter they will be able
to handle their own fun -

Mythology takes a beating
Is fantasy a new religion?
In ancient days (we were
told in school people con-
jured up stories to reflect
the origins of the things
around them.
These basic explanations
grew with the telling and
evolved into an oral and
eventually written
mythology.
Infamous pantheons of
gods. giants and even aspir-
ing human heros became
part of the people's lives and
beliefs and eventually
became part of their history.
While parts of history
became part of the
mythology. the gods are often
named as inspiration or in-
stigation of various ancient
world events.)
Mythologies then, can be
classed as explanations for
something which is not un-
derstood.
Not surprisingly. gods
reflected the culture - The
Greek gods being refined
and educated, Norse gods
boozing and a' viking in
Valhalla: and most other
gods were part and parcel of
the nature of a region.

ing done by live steam;

puter age.
Along the way mythology

'phligistine' to an alchemists

take an active part in his

Along the way deeds of
great heros became the ac-

on Darwin or Oparin's work
would bring into question the

Fantasy lived on in
children's games and pulp

ly took it seriously. Fantasy
became entertainment,
something to spend an even-
ing with and have a good

danced the night away, and
never woke with a hangover:
ghouls stalked, comedians
stumbled and the odd
monster devoured Tokyo.
In the late sixties, fantasy
became politics - everybody
could share the land high on
drugs and life itself. A
revolution began to fight
the realities of the
mainstream political scene
and the Vietnam war.
But reality came back
with a vengeance.
Old age crept up on the

Fantasy is the niche we
hide in to escape the high

our skins a permanent blue

It's all a fantasy.

horror night
This Friday, November 13,
the South Huron student's
council will run a Horror
Movie Night. "The
Awakening" with Charlton
Heston and the 1980 version
of "Dracula", starring
Lawrence Olivier will make
up this spine -chilling double
feature. The movies start at
8:00 and admission is $3.00.
"The sound system is im-
proved over last year", said
council social convener,
Joanne Malone. "You can
get two movies for less than
the price of one in the
theatre."
