Wooden told 172 grade 12 graduates and a grade 13 graduating class of 32 that although they may have to make many new beginnings, they should never give up. Huron County Board of Education superintendent, Bob Allan told the graduates that the declining enrollment of the last 10 years would be to their advantage when they enter the work force. "You have every reason to 'be optimistic because there will be fewer people to do the necessary jobs,"'he said. The Student Council Scholarship was given to Arndt Vermaeten. For their contributions to school life and community involvement, Anne Marie Brand, Doug Raymond and Elizabeth Scott were presented with the Citizenship Shield and Student Council plaques. In her valedictory for the grade 12 graduates, Shiela Eisenchink suggested that "the steps get even bigger and more consequential after high school. There are bigger hurdles like university and college, a job or marriage." Wayne Parsons, grade 13 put the evening in per- spective with his remarks. "Although our high school days are over, forever, the South Huron experience will be long remembered." Honour student dinner Close to 80 students received recognition for their academic achievement at Friday nights South Huron District High School Honour banquet. In his address to the students, principal Joe Wooden likened the honour students role in school life to the function of the cavalry in warfare. "It lends tone to what would otherwise be a disgusting brawl," he quipped in his best English accent. A mix- ture of traditional and con- temporary ballet, comprised the repertoire of the Joffrey Company. "Cloud Nine" was one of the several plays seen by the group. The play is an examination of traditional sex roles in society and how they trap people. The Metropolitan museum and the Guggenheim museum were among the galleries visited during the cultural emmersion. A lot of the people on the trip ex- plored the multi -cultural cuisine of Greenwich Village and the exclusive shops of Fifth Avenue. During their visit to the "Big Apple". some of the group attended a Hallowe'en concert by new wave heroes, Devo. at Radio City Music Hall. "The trip was a real eyeopener". said Grade 13 student.
