Two more minor teanls get first win
Exeter's five minor
hockey squads managed only
two wins and a tie in nine
outings this week, but two
more teams recorded their
first win and a couple of the
losses were heart -breakers
in the final minutes of
games.
The atoms and pee wees
posted their first wins of the
season and that leaves only
the Waxers to hit the win
column and they're showing
signs they'll do it soon.
Novice come close
The Exeter novice con-
tinue to improve every time
out in Shamrock action, and
APPOINTMENT
while they're still looking for
their first win, they are get-
ting close.
At the rec centre, Sunday,
the youngest of the minor
squads dropped a 3-2 verdict
to Lucan.
Mark Russell and Jason
Hern dented the twine for
the home crew with Jamie
Cornish and Jim Ahrens
picking up assists.
Lenny Carter had a pair
for Lucan with Todd Hyde
notching the single.
Atoms split
The Exeter atoms scored
their first win of the season
when they posted a 7-1 win in
ParkhillFriday, but they lost
4-3 to Lucan at the rec cen-
tre. Sunday.
David Josephson scored a
pair in the win with singles
being fired by Rob
McLelland, David Dalrym-
ple. Jeff Rowe and Laurie
Chalmers. Doug Clark had
two assists and singles were
recorded by David O'Con-
nor. Rowe, Jeff Chipchase
and Dalrymple.
Exeter blew a 3-1 lead in
their Sunday game, falling
apart in the latter stages at
they have done in previous
games.
Dalrymple, Chalmers and
McLelland scored for Ex-
eter, while getting the Lucan
goals were Paul Manders
with two, Steven Snider and
Steven MacDonald.
Pee woes split
The Exeter pee wees split
a' pair of games with
Parkhill. winning 4-0 at the
rec centre, Wednesday, with
Parkhill coming back to win
5-1 on their home ice, Fri-
day.

assist. while notching single
tallies were.Ron Loucks and
Jeff Hannah. Danny McLean
and Loucks picked up two
assists each and Rob
McLean had one.

The Last Chance have
amassed a total of 30 points
to take a two point lead at
the top of the standings in
the Exeter Legion mixed
dart league.
The Rowdy Ones and Evil
Eyes are deadlocked for se-
cond place with 28 points
apiece while, the Shiphunters
are fourth with 27 points.

Bantams lose pair
The bantams lost both
their outings this week,
dropping a heart -breaking 7-
6 verdict to Parkhill,
Wednesday. and then com-
ing out on the short end of a
4-2 count in Ilderton, Mon-
day.
Parkhill scored the win-
ning goal with 29 seconds left
on the clock to gain the win
at the rec centre in a contest
that see -sawed all night.
George Pratt scored twice
to lead Exeter with singles
being recorded by Scott
Lovie. Stewart
Chettleburgh, Sean
Whiteford and Tim Easter -
brook.
Ted Lawson and Jeff Pfaff
led the assist department
with a pair each and recor-
ding one were Terry Zachar,
Chris Tiedeman, Lovie,
Chetteburgh and Whiteford.
In Ilderton. the home team
took a 3-1 lead into the third
and after Exeter pulled to
within one late in the stanza,
Ilderton scored the clincher
into an empty net.
Chris Tiedeman and Steve
Gould scored for Exeter
with assists going to net -
minder Rick Gilfillan, Ted
Lawson and John Wells.
Midgetset point
The Exeter Midgets had to
settle for one point in two
games. posting a 5-5 tie with
Parkhill and then being
dropped 6-1 in Ilderton.
The locals blew a two -goal
lead against Parkhill,
watching the visitors score
twice in the final three
minutes to gain the tie.
Scott Brintnell, Scott
Jesney, Dave Hayter,
Darren Moir and Chris
VanGerwen triggered the
Exeter tallies. Randy
Parker had two assists and
singles were recorded by
Steve Batten, Brent Atthill,
VanGerwen, Brintnell and
Jesney.
The locals were never in
Monday's game in Ilderton
as the home team took a 3-0
lead in the first and never
looked back. Parker finally
broke the goose -egg on a
pass from Moir near the end
of the contest.
Sherwo�ds wallop
Centralia
The Hensall Sherwoods
went on a scoring rampage
Monday night to defeat the
Centralia College Saints 16-4
in South Huron hockey
league play.
The Sherwoods scored
four times in the first period
and added six in each of the
next two to win easily.
The next action for the
Hensall club will be
tomorrow night, Thursday at
8.30 p.m. when they will be
at home to the Zurich
Buckeyes.
Dwight Consitt was in high
gear to lead the Sherwoods
to victory with a four goal

performance. also added
three assists.
Next in line with three
successful shots apiece were
Dave Kinsman and Ken
Varley. Getting two goals
each were Rick Ingram and
Ron Bilcke while Brian
Maher and Rick Agar added
singles.
Ted VandenBogvard
scored two goals for the
Saints and Doug Johnston
and Joe Schuermann notch-
ed single goals.
The College boys took 19 of
the 32 penalties handed out
by referees George Tryon
and Ron Watt.
Senior girls b'baII
The South. Huron senior
girls' basketball team won
twice last week to finish
first in the regular season
with a perfect 10-0 record. In
an exhibition match, Friday,
the 10th ranked Panthers
lost.a close 34-29 decision to
4th ranked London West-
minster. Despite the loss,
South Huron's WOSSA rank-
ing may well improve.
The team hosted Goderich
Vikings yesterday in semi-
final action. A win would
have advanced South Huron
to the final against either
Stratford Central or Strat-
ford Northwestern. The first
game of the best of three
final would be played in Ex-
eter. tomorrow.
The Panther's airtight
defence was the key in both
their wins. Wednesday
against Goderich, South
Huron limited the Vikings to
just 13 points, while scoring
34 points at the other end of
the floor.
Maja Gans led South
Huron with 12 points and
Deb Taylor added six.
South Huron dominated
play against Mitchell Thurs=
day. and won. 37-14. Maja
Gans had 13 points in the
relatively slow-paced game
Carrie Sweeney (again)
returned from an ankle in-
jury to score 8 points. Leslie
Hunter-Duvar and Deb
Taylor had 7 and 6 respec-
tively.
