Field hockey
season ends
The South Huron
fieldhockey team finished a
most successful season on a
losing note as they had one
win and two losses at the
OFSAA fieldhockey tourna-
ment. Friday and Saturday,
in Toronto.
"They had us ranked in the
top eight of the 16 but we
were in a very even pool and
that made it tough", said
coach. Jim Workman.
Friday morning, in the
rain and snow. South Huron
played a good game but
wound up on the short end of
a 1-0 tally against South
Carleton.
"We couldn't capitalize on
our scoring opportunities",
said Workman. That after-
noon Patti Willis played "ex-
ceptional hockey" and
scored in the last minutes to
give South Huron a 2-1 win
over George Vanier of North
York. Marilyn Brand scored
the other goal on a penalty
corner.
The team's crucial game
came Saturday morning
against Mississauga
Mayfield. A Panther win
would place them first in
their pool and advance them
to the semi-finals. South
Huron managed a scoreless
draw in the'first half but in
the second half, Mayfield
erupted for three quick

Rec hockey league underway
Play in the popular Exeter
rec hockey league started
October 27 with three one
sided games. In the first
game between the Trees and
the strong Pfaff Electric
squad. Pfaff dominated the
game throughout and if it
weren'I for the strong
goaltending of Ray Labelle,
the score would have been
much higher than a 7-1
count.
Don McKellar led Pfaff's
with four goals followed by
Randy Gilfillan with two and
Jim Rolph picked up one.
Bill Pincombe had four
assists. Gerry Sararas broke
the goose egg for Pete Par-
sons in the Pfaff goal.
The next game was
between the new Dashwood
Hotel versus the always
strong Algoma Tire. Algoma
had the chances earlier but
couldn't capitalize with the
Hotel taking the game 7-2.
Dashwood scoring was
well spread out. John
Gillespie scored two goals
while Larry Mason, Ken
Bergmann. and Beuten-
miller. Scott Burton and
Paul Mason each scored one.
John Hayman and Bob
Parsons scored for Algoma
Tire in a strong second
period.
Defending champ
Dashwood Tigers continued
right where they left off last
year. soundly defeating the
MacLean Sports team 9-0.
Paul Maguire and Steve
Kadelecik led Dashwood
with two goals apiece. Bill
Hoffman. Bob Lovie, Don
scoreboard in the last
minute.
Workman has high hopes
for next years squad, as the
team will lose only Brenda
Brand. Lisa Hamather and
Cindy Janke by graduation.
The potential of young
players like fullbacks Ken-
dra Arthur and Pauline
DeVries should leave the
team in good stead.
Thorton, John Becker and
Brian Rader finished the
rout.
In November 4 action,
Dashwood Tigers again put
forward a strong effort in
defeating a shorthanded
Algoma Tire squad 9-1.
Jim Guenther led
Dashwood with three goals
followed by John Becker
with two games and an
assist and Perry Stover with
two. Bill and Bob Hoffman
finished the scoring.
Al Parsons assisted by
Wayne Mavkr broke Joe Ar-
nold's shutout string of five
periods with a goal early in
the third.
A see -saw battle took
place between MacLean
Sports and The Trees
squads. MacLeans popped
out in front on goals by
Derek Vandergunst and
Dave Robinson.
Gerry Sararas then scored
two goals in a row to knot
the score. MacLeans again
fought back after being shut
out last week getting goals
from Jeff Rowe and Mark
Hern. The game ended 4-2
and featured strong goalten-
ding from both Paul Cooper
and Ray Labelle.
Last years' finalists, Pfaff
Electric faced the newest
entry into the league
Dashwood Hotel, and in a
closely contested battle
came out with a 3-2 win.
Ron Moore opened the
scoring for Dashwood on a
deflection from Larry
Mason. Then Pfaff fought
back with two quick goals by
Scott Pincombe and Ken
Pinder.
Larry Johns then knotted
the score at 2-2 at the end of
two.
A costly tripping penalty
allowed Ken Pinder to score
his second goal of the game
