Rv MRS. WILLIAM ROHDE
The November meeting of
the United Church Women
was held Monday evening
with a good crow:l in atten-
dance.
Mrs. William Rohde
welcomed everyone and
Mrs. Tony Verberne gave
the theme "God Is In Our
Midst." Mrs. Gerry Morgan
gave the Call to Worship and
prayer. The meditation was
read by Mrs. John Pym.
Mrs. Jack Hodgert read the
Scripture Lesson, Psalm 139.
Mrs. Rohde led in prayer
and also read two poems,
"God Is The Answer and A
Little Less of Prejudice."
Mrs. Donald Bray and
Miss Doris Elford sang a
lovely duet accompanied by
Mrs. Reg Hodgert.
Mrs. Morgan and Mrs.
Verberne received the offer-
ing. Mrs. Rohde gave the
Offertory prayer.
Mrs. Rohde introduced the
guest speaker Mrs. Bruce
Keys, Zurich who gave a
very interesting talk. Mrs.
John Pym thanked Mrs.
Keys and presented her with
a plant and a gift of money.
Mrs. Murray Dawson
opened the business with a
poem. Roll call, minutes and
correspondence were given.
The treasurer's report was
received. Mrs. Lloyd Ballan-
tyne gave the report of the
nominating committee.
A first vice-president and
two group leaders are need-

with the singing of Let There
Be Peace on Earth and
prayer. A delicious lunch
was served by Group U and
the hostess Mrs. Jean Allen.
Church Service
Mr. Lorne Thrower was in
charge of the regular church
service. The children's
hymn was Somebody Bigger
Than You. Lorne told the
children a story. Mr. and
Mrs. William Rohde played
several hymns on the violin
and piano.
The Scripture Lesson was
read from 2 Timothy. Mr.
Thrower's message was en-
titled "The Search Con-
tinues."
Mankind has always been
in search of something -
something that he doesn't
already have, something
that will quench his thirst
for answers, or will Improve
his station in life.
When we read through the
Bible. we find constant
reference to those who were
searching for concrete
answers, or who were
searching for the promised
land or for someone who
would lead against the op-
pression of human frailities.
In Canada, wars and the
suffering related to same
seems inappropriate to talk
about as most of us only
remember the stories about
the two past world wars.
Even though we celebrate a
day of remembrance, to
most it is just another holi-
day, and the memories
associated with wars seem
very remote and distant.
In the scripture reading
Paul told Timothy to take his
share of hardships, like a
good soldier. Perhaps as we
worship here today, we may
start to analyize and realize
we have accepted certain

beliefs which are not taught
in the Bible. They may sound
good, but they are in opposi-
tion to the way Jesus taught
us to live.
Paul told Timothy to be a
good soldier for Jesus
Christ, and today;Lorne said
I am asking that all of you
will be good soldiers of Jesus
Christ just as I was asked 20
years ago by the grand-
daughter of General Wm.
Booth when the Rev. Vic-
toria Booth Demarest
autographed a book of
poems for Lorne in this way
- Praying you Lorne, will be
a good soldier of Jesus
Christ and it was signed Vic-
toria Booth Demarest, Oc-
tober 1961.
Lorne asked What about
You? Have you found your
commanding officer or does
"The Search Continue".
The official board meeting
will be held in Thames Road
Church Thursday,
November 19.
The manse committee
would like the congregation
to save Zehr's register tapes
and hand them to anyone on
manse committee. They
plan to use them as funds
towards new drapes for the
manse.
