Craig Lions club celebrates

October 16. 1981, the Ailsa
Craig Lions held Charter
plus 10 in the Lucan Com-
munity Centre which means
the Ailsa Craig Lions have
been serving the Community
and others for 10 years.
A good crowd of 120 was in
attendance to help
celebrate.
The meeting was chaired
by president Lion Jim
Pickering who welcomed
everyone and thanked them
for coming.
At the head table were
lions Governor Al Betterley,
Mt. Brydges, Deputy Gover-
nor Adrian van Doongan,
Lambeth. Past Governor
Bob Sloan. Sarnia and
charter president Don
Shipway and their ladies.
After a delicious meal
served by the Legion Ladies
Auxiliary. President Jim
call on the head table guests
for a few words.
The tables were then
cleared and the rest of the
evening was spent dancing
to the music of the Dallas
group.

Listed below are yearly
functions as well as special
past activities:
Supplied instruments for a
Scottish band, supplied
equipment for youth centre,
hold a Christmas dinner for
local Senior Citizens each
year. hold a fall and spring
garbage pick-up in the com-
munities of Ailsa Craig and
Nairn every year and can-
vass for CNIB every year.
Other charities the club
has supported are hearing
handicapped, 'crippled
children, senior citizens,
Boy Scouts Organization and
Minor Athletics.
We're one of two partners
in starting Gala Days and
built a prize winning float.
The Ailsa Craig Lions
were the original sponsor of
the Turtle races in Ailsa
Craig.
We hold ' our major fund
raising project each year
which is the ;3000 draw and
financed building of pavilion
in ball park.
We also have a Hallowe'en
dance to raise funds and a
Hallowe'en party for the
children.
We're one of 11 clubs to
donate $500.00 for a new van
at Crestwood Industries for
mentally or physically han-
dicapped adults; also $500
toward purchase of the van
at Strathmere Lodge,
Strathroy.
Helped many individuals
get through personal crisis
of many kinds; helped finan-
cially to start the nursery -
school at Nairn; and we
have two pins that are ex-
cellent traders with other
clubs.
We've won many awards
and prize money in baseball
tournaments, financed a
smoke detector system for
the Lions Home for the Deaf
at Nairn; have started to
hold a yearly consignment
auction sale; spearheaded
the liquor vote in the village
in 1981.
We hope eventually, with
the help of others, build a
multipurpose community
centre.

Rev. Scott conducted the
Sunday morning service.
The choir sang the Anthem
"Tell It To Jesus". The Ex-
eter Young People held a
service Sunday afternoon.

Marie Flynn to provide Old
Tyme Music on Monday
afternbgn.. During the en-
joyable program, the
residents joined in on a sing
song.
Ed Stiles delighted the
residents again on Thursday
by playing the organ in the
chapel. Many old favourites
were recognized by those in
attendance.
The ceramic pumpkin
which was raffled off by the
Craft Room was won by
Corrine VanMiltenburg.

from Seaforth. Secord can
be found on 1st North. Also
we would like to welcome
Nelson Hood from Kippen.

Fifth 4-H
The fifth meeting of
Dashwood 4-H girls' club

was held Monday, October
26. The learned about
poaching eggs and advan-
tages and disadvantages of
the different methods of
poaching eggs. TIps for
success for hard or soft
cooked eggs were discussed.
The four major functions of
eggs were reviewed - leaven-
ing, thickening, binding and •
emulsifying.
Plans were made for next
week's party with a
Hallowe'en theme.
