Waxers get point
The Exeter novice had a
busy weekend, playing three
games in as many days, and
they posted their first point
in Shamrock play as they
tied Parkhill 1-1 on the
latter's ice, Friday.
Goalie Shawn McFalls
was the hero of the tie as he
came up with several big
saves, backed by a strong
defensive effort by his
cohorts.
Parkhill took the lead late
in the third, but Exeter got
the equalizer with just under
two minutes remaining as
Jason Heywood dented the
twine on a play with Fred
Godbolt.
In St. Marys, Saturday,
the locals were clipped 3-1 as
the homecrew scored twice
in the third to break a tie.
David Schwindt scored the
lone Exeter tally in that con-
test with Jamie Cornish
picking up the assist.
The same two teams battl-
ed it out on the rec centre
ice, Sunday, with St. Marys
again emerging as winners
with a 3-0 count.
Coach Keith Ahrens noted
that Exeter's best play of
the day in St. Marys came
mid -way through the fire
alarm. The teams had to
vacate the facility until the
St. Marys fire department
arrived and gave the go-
ahead to return to the ice.
Midgets lose pair
The local midgets lost both
their outings this week, tak-
ing a 6-1 drubbing in St.
Marys, Wednesday, and en-
ding up on the short end of a
4-1 count in Huron Park,
Saturday, in an exhibition
contest.
Greg Hern scored the lone
goal in St. Marys with Eric
Tadgell drawing the assist in
a game that was marred by
a rash of penalties and a
number of arguments stem-
ming from delayed penalty
situations that confused he
time-keppers.
In Huron Park, Exeter
took a 1-0 lead on an un-
assisted goal by Scott
Brintnell, but the home crew
bounced back with four
straight in the abbreviated
contest.
