The South Huron senior
football team triumphed 35-
20 over Stratford Central
Ramblers in Huron -Perth
semi-final action, Thursday
in Exeter. The Panthers will
be trying to repeat their win
last year in the Huron -Perth
final when they host
Goderich Vikings, Saturday.
Kickoff is set for 1:30.
A 14 -yard run for a first
down by Wayne Smith, set up
a 47 yard touchdown pass
from quarterback Bill
Glover to Jim Siddall, and
helped South Huron get on
the scoreboard early. On the
next possession, Rick Lin-
denfield, with the help of
some good blocking, ran 15
yards for a touchdown.
"Our pass defense was
very inept. We'll have that
problem rectified by
Saturday," said coach Ron
Bogart. In the second
quarter, Stratford Central
moved down the field and
scored on a series of passing

However, the Panthers
forced a fumble on the first
play of the game and limited
the Ramblers to just 37 yards
rushing.
Jamie Chaffe led South
Huron's defensive corps with
16 key tackles. Greg Prout
and Rich Fletcher had 13 and
12 tackles respectively.
Lindenfield, who rushed
for 218 yards on 29 carries
against Stratford, started
the second half scoring when
he ran three yards for his
second major. Stratford
retaliated with an im-
pressive display of passing,
that included a 33 yard
touchdown completion.
"They're a much better
team than their sixth place
finish would Indicate,"
Bogart said about Stratford.
The momentum changed
once more when Wayne
Smith sprinted five yards for
a major. Early in the fourth
quarter, Ed Willis sacked the
Stratford quarterback in the
end zone for a two point
safety.
Central pulled within eight
points of South Huron on a
one yard touchdown run.
With leas than a minute
remaining, the South Huron
defense stopped Stratford
deep in their own zone.
Smith, who kicked three
converts in the game, then
ran four yards for a touch-
down to ensure the win.
"It'll be close," Bogart
predicted about the final
against Goderich. Bogart
feels the key to winning is to
establish a running attack
against the Vikings, early in
the game.
Junior football
Fate did not favour the
South Huron junior football
team in their semi-final
game Thursday, against
Listowel, as they lost 13-7 to
the Lords. The game was
close until the fourth
quarter, when Listowel
recovered a fumbled punt in
the Panther end zone for a
touchdown.
Quarterback Larry
Mathers did all the South
Huron scoring, as he ran one
yard for a touchdown in the
second quarter and kicked a
20 yard single in the fourth
quarter.
TAKING OFF — Panthers quarterback Bill Glover picks up some valuable

Mohawks failed to hang onto
a early lead of 4-1 at the end
of the first 20 minutes of
play.
The Exeter club jumped

minutes of action. Tom
Ryan fired two successful
opening period shots. The
first was on a three-way
combo with Dave
Underwood and .Jeff Fuller
and the second with passing
help from Luc Gagnon.
The other Mohawks
counters came from Dan
Stanlake on an unassisted ef-
fort and Dave Jackson with
assists going to Dan Bell and
Dave Underwood.
The Ione first period score
for the Buckeyes came with
two minutes to go from the
stick of Tom Hayter on a
pass from Pat Bedard.

only two goals of the second
20 minutes to get within
score of the Mohawks. Paul
Haggitt converted a pass
