Meet Stratford Central
Senior Panthers in H -P semi-final
The South Huron senior
football team shutout
Norwell Redmen 40-0,
Thursday to finish the
regular Huron -Perth season
with a perfect 6-0record. The
team will host Stratford
Central in seml-final action,
tomorrow, at 2:00 p.m.
"It was the big play that
beat Norwell," coach Ron
Bogart said, Friday. The
first of the big plays came on
South Huron's first series
when Pete Tuckey ran 92
yards off a counter sweep for
a touchdown.
The Norwell defence keyed
on, and effectively limited,
Panther running backs in the
first half. However, this left
the defence very vulnerable
and on South Huron's second
possession, Panther back,
Jeff Rowe high-etepped 41
yards up the middle and then
charged in from five yards
for a touchdown.

Five teams lose to Goderich
Midgets only minor club to win
The Exeter midgets were
the only Exeter minor
hockey squad able to post a
win as the Shamrock league
schedule commenced this
week.
All five local teams lost
their home openers to
Goderich, but the midgets
rebounded for a road win in
Parkhill, Sunday.
The midgets received
some spectacular netmin-
ding from Peter Dearing to
turn their first road game
into a win as they nipped
Parkhill 2-0.
Exeter took a 1-0 lead ear-
ly in the game when Greg
Hern sent Eric Tadgell into
the clear with a pass and the
rightwinger made no mis-
takes as he picked an open
corner.

way until the dying minutes
of the game when Parkhill

the ice into the empty cage
for the insurance marker.

apart in the final franie after

Lindenfield had his
vengeance in the fourth
quarter when he finally got
some running room and
thundered 67 yards for a
touchdown.
Greg Prout led the defence
with 10 key tackles. Ed Willis
blocked two field goal at-
tempts and had eight
tackles. Lindenfield had
eight tackles on defense as
well as rushing 131
yards on offence. Rich
Fletcher put the hit on six
Redmen as he filled in for
Dave Delbridge at the
middle guard position.
Although possession of the
ball was equal, South Huron
rushed for 462 yards on the
muddy field, while holding
Norwell to just 41 yards on
the ground.
"On a wet day like that, a
good defensive line is very
important because the game
is limited to running", said
Greg- Prout, defensive
captain.
Wayne Smith started the
scoring in the second half
when he sprinted 22 yards for
a touchdown. Smith con-
verted four of six Panther
majors. On a backfield
mixup, quarterback Bill
Glover ran 4 yards for a
touchdown.
It was a repeat per-
formance when Tuckey ran
47 yards against the
defensive motion for his
second major of the af-
ternoon.
South Huron

South Huron intermediate

Centralia College Saints.
Saints coach Frank
Funston have only two
players back from last year.
They are goalie Eugene
Glavin and forward Tim
Breedon.
Despite the big turnover,
Funston expects to have a
good club. He added, "It will
take a couple of weeks to get
them together. They are all
strangers to each other, but,
they have lots of enthusiasm
and I should have a bigger
team as far as player size is
concerned."
A number of prospective
Saints have played junior

Wingham, St. Marys and
Parkhill areas.
Among the CCAT can-
didates are Mark Thompson,

Grand Bend area.

Zurich Buckeyes have been
listed by coaches of the
other clubs as the favourites
to repeat their record of last
year.
The Buckeyes under new
coach Paul Morrison will
have 10 players back from
their 1980-81 championship
club.

Field hockey
a nightmare
"The weather was
atrocious; the field was a
nightmare," said
fieldhockey coach Jim
Workman, after Thursday's
Huron -Perth final against St.
Marys. The game itself was
a bad dream as South Huron
lost 1-0 in an overtime
shootout after going through
the regular season un-
defeated.
In regular time, and again
in the 10 minute sudden -
death overtime period, the
Panthers dominated play but
couldn't score. According to
Workman, ninety percent of
the play was in St. Marys end
of the field. St. Marys won
the game cn a high flick shot
in the five shot shootout.
In their second regular
season tournament,
Tuesday, South Huron won
all three of their games.
Marilyn Brand scored on a
penalty corner in the last
minute to give the Panthers
a narrow 2-1 win over
Stratford Central in a
scrappy game. Brand scored
the other South Huron
marker.
Pauline Brand, who has,
become a competent goal
scorer, had two goals and
Cheryl Cann added an in-
surance marker as South
Huron downed St. Marys 3-0.
Pauline Brand and
Marilyn Brand each had a
goal as the Panthers easily
handled Listowel, 2-0.
The team's second place
finish qualified them for the
six -team round-robin
WOSSA tournament.
Saturday, in Parkhill.
