I'm going to be bringing you the events that happen at my school. This is my first column of the year. I will be bringing you ar- ticles every one or two weeks so watch for me. Here are a few of the events that happened since the start of this school year. Tony. Cross Country - Cross country was held at the Ex- eter Arena on Wednesday October 14, 1981. The dif- ficulty of the course showed on many people. Mrs. Talbot and Mr. Lawrence went along to help guide the runners on their course. The schools participating in the cross-country tourna- ment were Stephen, Usborne, Exeter, Hensall, McCurdy and Zurich. McCurdy won four pennants while Stephen and Usborne each won one. Roger Ward. Mrs. Ber- nard McCormick presided for the meeting, opening with .a hymn. Scripture message was read by Mrs. Bill Schaefer, meditation by Mrs. G. Stoat. Giiest speaker was Mrs. Reverend King of Kirkton- Woodham United churches who was most interesting and inspired us with many good thoughts. Meeting closed with prayer. Lunch was served by Mrs. Harold Davis and the hostess. Mrs. J. McCormick has returned home after spen- ding sometime with Mr. and Mrs. John Hanniman and family at Renfrew. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Blackler and family were Sunday dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Norris Webb, Woodham . Times -Advocate, October 21, 1981 Page 11* Tony predicts 'grrreat' year school. There are six teams named by colours, red, blue, orange, green, purple, and brown. Red is the lead so far. The scoring is 1 point for a loss, two points for a tie, and three points for a win. This cat will be on the pros'l for any further informatio . Jerry Lamport. Jogging Club - At , e beginning of school we started a jogging club. We measured out a track one half kilometre long. There were charts put up In the hall to mark how many kilometres we each had run. At first we just ran on the normal grass where it was measured but soon we had a path worn down because there were so many people running. At the end of the school year we will receive bars for running either 25, 50 Mary's Musings Continued from page 7A twin cities outdid themselves for the annual Oktoberfest. We journeyed down for our first visit to the K -W Oktoberfest, and enjoyed the evening very much. We ate everything from pig tails to sauerkraut, and polkaed to typical German music. But the highlight of the evening was learning to dance the "Bird", also known as the chicken. Now, you may think the bird is a punk rock dance, but actual- ly it would best be described as a German folk dance - with a touch of craziness. It has just been imported from Europe, and was the hit of the Oktoberfest. A friend, whose parents spent the summer in Belgium tells me that it was very, very popular over there. I'm sure we'll all be doing the bird at the next dance we attend. Just get ready for a lot of laughs. It's really very simple - move your hands like a bird's beak, then flap your wings and wiggle your tail. While this was, as I said, our first visit to the K -W Oktoberfest, we are veterans of the Taxandria Septemberfest in Arkona. Arkona folks should be pleased to know that their version compares quite favourably with the bigger one. Now we'll have to go to Munich and make that com- parison. There we learned about the un- iverse, trees, orienteering and unfortunately, Old Tom Sylvan which some of us did not find too amusing. Next year I recommend that the grade eights get plenty of rest, warm clothing and bravery for the Old Torn Sylvan Story. This year it was extremely cold and'rainy so most of us slept in the Frontier House or eating room, where we had a teacher on guard and a fireplace going. However, some of the brave ones stayed in the chuckwagon. Leanne Stuart. Environment Trip - On Oc- tober 16, the grades six and seven classes of Stephen Central School journeyed to the Pinery Provincial Park for a field trip. In the park we followed along a path and BLIND SAY THANKS The Bluewater Council of the Blind held their Thanksgiving dinner at the Clinton Legion Hall October 14.
