Junior basketballers improve record with victory
The South Huron junior
girls' basketball team im-
proved their regular season
record to four wins and one
loss with a 46-22 win over
Listowel last week .
In exhibition play, Friday,
against Medway the squad
dropped a close decision, 33-
28.
Charlene Verbeek played
with newfound poise to score
15 points and lead the
Panthers to victory over the
improving, yet inconsistent
Listowel team. Joanne
Miller controlled play from
her point guard position to
add 10 points.
"It wasn't until the fourth
quarter that we broke
away," coach Pat Rowe said
about the fast -paced match.
Janet Pfaff scored eight

points before she was
sidelined by a twisted knee.
"She's impossible to replace
at this point," Rowe said.
"It's hoped Pfaff will be
back in action this week.
"We can beat those guys",
Rowe said after her team's
loss Friday to Medway in a
scrambly game. It took
twenty-five minutes to play
the last quarter because of
play stoppages for iump
balls. Charlene Verbeek had at London

down our throats", coach
Dave Cox said after his
junior football team's 28-0

as scored touchdowns on
runs of one and ten yards.

the Panthers came when Joe

With the rising price of
gasoline, it's nice to know that
there is a proven and available
alternative for automotive
fuel:
propane
FUEL COSTS are greatly reduced and could pay
for your conversion.
ENGINE OVERHAULS are all but eliminated
since propane burns clean, leaving no carbon
deposits.
OIL CHANGES are fewer and farther between
because propane does not wash the oil as liquid
fuels do.
SPARK PLUGS last longer because propane is
free of lead content which fouls plugs.
MUFFLER REPLACEMENT
is seldom required because of
the reduction of acids emitted
in exhaust.
FUEL PUMPS are no longer
required on straight propane
systems.

Senior girls
keep winning
In games last week, the
South Huron senior girls
basketball team continued
their winning habit. The
Panthers beat Listowel 42-23
and Medway, 48-26.
At a weekend tournament
in Woodstock, the seniors
were avenged by Guelph
Ross, 31-30, and then
trounced College Avenue of
Woodstock, 33-18 In the
consolation final.
"We were very lethargic in
the first half." coach Terry
O'Rourke said about the
game against Listowel.
South Huron led by a close
17-13 score until they broke it
open in the second half. Deb
Taylor turned the game
around for the Panthers
when she scored on five of
seven trips down the floor for
10 points.
Maja Gans led South
Huron scorers with 13
points. Cindy Down and
Leslie Hunter-Duvar each
added 6 points.
Gans and Diane Fisher
rebounded well to take up the
slack created by the ankle
injury of Lori Brand, when
South Huron faced Medway,
Friday. Gans had 17 points
and Cindy Down played with
composure both ways to
score 10 points. Hunter-
Duvar and Taylor each had
six points.
South Huron couldn't
repeat their Purple and
White win over Guelph Ross
when they faced the Trojans
in the first round of the
Woodstock tournament.
Guelph scored with 40
seconds left to take the lead
and the Panthers failed on
their final attempt to snatch
victory in the dying seconds.
Hunter-Duvar had 8
rebounds and Maja Gans led
the scoring with 15 points.
Gans had 21 points and
Deb Taylor had 10 points in
South Huron's win over
College Avenue.
The seniors will put their
perfect regular season
record on the line when they
host Norwell today and
Stratford Northwestern
tomorrow.
