Clandeboye ladies enjoy

bus tour Thursday to
Harriston, Listowel and
Mitchell, sponsored by the
Granton Women's Institute.
In Harriston they toured
the ice cream division of
Canada Packers, a furniture
company and knitting mills
in Listowel and a small can-
dy factory In Mitchell.
Joanne Glavin, Mary and
Lorna Latta attended a
trousseau tea on Sunday, at
the home of Mrs, Bill Dow,
London, iri honour of her
daughter. Susan Dow, whose

marrage to Don Latta takes
place October 10.
Several farmers from this
area braved the rain and the
mud to take in the Inter-
national Plowing Match near
Barrie, in Simcoe County.
Jean and Pat Hodgins ac-
companied by the former's
sister, Ruth Brock,
Goderich, visited with Mr.
and Mrs. Don Brock and
family of Wasaga for a cou-
ple of dAys last week and
attended4the International
Plowing match, Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Williams, London visited
Thursday with Mr. and Mrs.
Rupert Williams.

Sunday, Jackie Coddington
was welcomed to the con-
gregation as a new com-
municant.

Nearly, 1,5000 World Book
salespeople attended the
meeting at the Washington
Sheraton Hotel.
Highlights of the con-
ference included ap-
pearances by George Burns,
country singer Terri Gibbs
and newspaper humorist Art
Buchwald. Gibbs, blind since
birth, recently helped the
company launch The Talking
World Book. The first en-
cyclopedia ever recorded
for the blind and partially
sighted,
World Book attendees also
heard that the 1981 edition
of the encyclopedia buying
guide gave World Book an
excellent rating in nine of ten
evaluative categories --
more than any other set
received. The price was
judged to be reasonable.
Over ;50,000 worth of
prizes were given away at
the conference, ap-
propriately called
Extravaganza 1981.
World Book-Chlldcraft is
the publisher of the World
Book Encyclopedia,
Chlldcraft — the How and
Why Library, and The World
Book Dictionary, among
other educational materials.

Baptists celebrate

The Baptist church
celebrated its 110 anniver-
sary Sunday, September 27
when Rev. Jim Lewis of
London was guest speaker
and Danny Gillard, student
at Christianview Bible
College, sang special music
for the morning service.
Rev. Lewis spoke on
"We've changed...has
God?" at the evening
worship. Two sets of duets
by Mr. and Mrs. Donald
MacDonald of Listowel were
enjoyed. Donald, son of
John, sang "It is well".

Shipka anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Russell
Mellin, were honored, Sun-
day on the occasion of their
40th wedding anniversary,
with a noon meal, for 40
family members and
relatives, held at Shipka
Community Centre.
Following the dinner,
Open House was held from
2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
The Mellin's have three
daughters and one son,
Marion - Mrs. Murray
Hamilton, of Thedford,
Wayne. of Greenway, Barb,
Mrs. Larry Wein, of Exeter,
Lorene. Mrs. Harold Martin,
of Kitchener, and seven
grandchildren.
The best man and
bridesmaid of 40 years ago,
Mr. and Mrs. Orville Mellin,
were with the couple on this
special occasion.
Guests attended from
London, Strathroy, Exeter,
Hensall, Thedford, Parkhill,
Kitchener, Grand Bend and
Lucan.
They received a special
congratulation message by
phone. from a nephew in
Vancouver.
Don, Sharon and Jamie
Baker and Donna, Spent the
weekend in Detroit, visiting
Sandra and Tony Regier Jr.
Chris, Heather and Milan,
and also with Sharon's
father. Tony Regier Sr.
