IRVIN RADER DASHWOOD Dashwood seniors met Monday. September 21 with 46 present. President, Mrs. Pearl Miller presided for the business. Letters of thanks were read. Chairman of the nominating com- mi;tee. Oscar Pfaff read the list of new officers for 1981- 82. namely. president, Mrs. Pearl Miller; vice- presidents. Mrs. Eben Weigand and Mrs. Ross Love: secretary -treasurer, Mrs. Mervyn Tiernan; assis- tant. Mrs. Lorne Genttner; trustees. Oscar Pfaff, Carl Ohmayer. and Mervyn Tiernan. Reinhold Miller conducted the installation. Mrs. Charles Martene is card convener. A bus trip is being planned for the Royal Winter Fair. The fall rally is October 14 in Holmesville. Mrs. M. Tiernan gave a report of the ["SCO convention held at Queen'; University, Kingston. Mrs. Ross Love's group was 1n charge _of the program. Following a short sing song. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Haist sang a duet accompanied on the guitar by their son. Stanley. Cards and crokinole were enjoyed. Chickens eggs in Dashwood The first meeting of the Dashwood 4-H homemaking club was held September 21 for the project, "Which came first. the chicken or the egg" with leaders. Mrs. Ray Rader and Mrs. Earl Keller. Officers were elected from the 14 members as follows: presi- dent. Elise Vandeworp; vice-president. Irene Dietrich; secretary, Lori Ann Boogemans; teasurer, Brenda Rader; press reporter. Rachel Mellecke. Mrs. Rader explained the project requirements and freezing and thawing chickens. Mrs. Keller gave tips on the types of chickens, grades, care and structure and sharpening knives. This was followed by a demonstration in cutting by the leaders. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Tieman attended the gift show on the weekend and also visited with their grand- son, David Stormes, who is attending University of Toronto. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Stormes,Susan and Peter. St. Thomas, were also visiting him. Mrs. Pearl Miller, accom- panied by a niece from Sar- nia, has returned home from a most interesting two week visit to British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. Relatives drove them to see Banff. Jasper. and Edson, Alberta. where they saw the mining of coal. and Stoney Plains. At Saskatoon Mrs. Miller met a sister-in-law she had never seen before. She also saw the farm where Leasum and Ed Lafond farmed and visited her brother Ed's grave at Blucher, Saskatchewan. They flew home from Calgary. Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Rader were Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Weiberg. Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Gamble, Lon- don; and Mr. and Mrs, Lloyd Rader. Calvary United church World Wide communion will be celebrated Sunday, Oc- tober 4. 9:45 There were a good number out Wednesday evening to see slides of Rev. Laing's trip to Israel. The pictures were taken in and around Galilee, and were very real ano most interesting. The next half of her slides will be of Jerusalem. She will be showing them Thursday evening October 8, 8 p.m. in Zurich United Church. On October 5, 8 p.m. Dashwood United Church members will have their board meeting at the church. Elgin and Kevin, John and Alphonse (Whitey) Denomme spent a few days fishing north of the French River on Georgian Bay where Whitey snagged a 15 pound. 39'z inch Northern pike and an 11 pounder. He is having the 15 pound one mounted. The Black slo-pitch girls' team won the championship Wednesday evening. Lynda Dietrich is captain and Anne Sweiger is co -captain. Miss Laurie Becker, Tren- ton, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Becker and family. Mrs. Lorne Genttner has returned home following a three week visit with her brother, Don Lockhart of London to Kamloops, B.C., Edmonton, Winnipeg and Northern Michigan. PARKHILL QUEENS -- Wanda Currie was named Queen of the 1981 Parkhill Fair Friday night. She is shown at the left with runnerup Elizabeth Wolper, a grade 13 student at South Huron District High School in Exeter. This 1s their first granddaughter and fifth grandchild. Mrs. Clarence Shaddock, Dorchester has been spen- ding some time with Gertle Rock. Rev. Moore chose the topic "The Load We Carry" for his sermon on Sunday. Joanne Walper, Guelph spent the weekend at home. Russell and Ruby Mellln are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary next Sunday. HUGH MORENZ Mrs. Elsie Comfort of Welland, who has been visiting here for the past five weeks, at her daughter's home, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Sweitzer, -left for home last Sunday. She also visited with her other daughters Mrs. Doris Sweitzer and Mrs. Jack Pickering. Grade 8, area students from Stephen Central school spent last week from Monday to Wednesday at Camp Sylvan, sleeping out in covered wagons. Those participating in the camp out were Patti and Heather Love, Glenn Durie Lori Vincent and Tim Cant. Ray and Gloria and Jeannie Desjardine visited on the weekend with Jeanie's grandparents. Willis and Ella Desjardine . Friday visitors with the Desjar- dine's were Alvin and Clara Statton of Grand Bend. Harvey °and Gloria Beierling, Kevin and Dwight visited Sunday evening with her parents Joyce and Howard Adkins and Jamie of Zurich area. Gloria Beierling, Laura Miller, Jessie Rader, Dash- wood area, Sharon Solden of Grand Bend recently at- tended a miscellaneous bridal shower for Catherine Weido, in Zurich at Mrs. Lionel Wilder's home. Catherine is bride elect of early October. Donna Baker, who has been working this past year as nurse in an Edmonton, Alberta hospital is home for two weeks vacation. Weekend visitors with Donna and her family were Ken and Carol Baker, Bonnie, Tracey and Shellie of Stratford, and Sandra and Tony Regier, Christopher, Heather and Jullian of Detroit.
