The church was tastefully decorated with fruit, vegetables and flowers. Two baskets of flowers from the funeral of the late Mrs. Bilyea, Granton were placed in the chancel. Holy Communion was administered to all present with a blessing for the children, a new Bible was dedicated in loving memory of the late Mrs. Ada Carroll Ings. Following the service Rev. and Mrs. Smith, Andrew and Cate and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Davis were dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Davis. William Lambourne and Mark Guy, London with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Carroll. Messrs Gote Wennerstrom and Jeff Young, Lucan, Mrs. Earl Atkinson, Lucan and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kooy, Centralia with Mrs. Heber Davis. Cleve Pullman, Exeter visited later. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice MacDonald, Lucan and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dickins, Exeter with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Greenlee. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dobbs Jr. attended a dinner• and evening program at the London Court House Saturday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dobbs Sr. Exeter and Sunday they were dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dobbs Sr. Miss Lisa Canham, London spent the weekend with Miss Patti Dobbs. PETER MARTIN CREDITON The Crediton firemen, Stephen Area 2 were hosts to the monthly Mutual Aid meeting September 21. Volunteer firefighters at- tended from; Blyth, Brussels, Brucefield, Clinton, Centralia, Dash- wood, Ethel, Exeter, Goderich, Huron Park, Hensall, Kippen and Wingham. Special speakers for the evening were; Area Service Advisor, Jerry Sunstrum, who spoke on safe in- stallation of stoves, fireplaces and chimneys and the proper methods of ex- tinguishing fires from them. Stephen township building inspector, Arnold McCann commented on the building codes and the importance of strict adherence to them. John Consitt spoke on behalf of Hay Mutual Fire Insurance. Also representing Hay Mutual was Steve Pertschy. A brief question period followed each speaker. A hearty lunch was served. Personals Rev. Armin Schlenker his returned home from South Huron Hospital. Many area parents of the grade 8 students at Stephen Central attended parents night at Camp Sylvan Tuesday evening. Skits, games and a corn roast were enjoyed by those attending. I'm sure that it was an en- joyable evening. I toured the roads looking for a sign unknowingly passing by the gate several times. Apparently the sign had found its way into a nearby corn field making it difficult for a stranger to the area. By MRS. A number from here attended the anniversary service in the Zion West United Church on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bowden were Sunday visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Jaques and family, Granton. World Communion will be observed during the service in the United Church on Sun- day morning. Kitktor By MRS. HAROLD DAVIS Mrs. Howe, Winnipeg, visited friends in the com- munity, Monday. Mrs. J. McCormick spent a few days this week in Port Huron accompanied by Mrs. Marjorie Glanville, Exeter. Mr. and Mrs. Burns Blackler spent the weekend at a Fly -In Convention at Alliston. Mr. and Mrs. Humphrey Arthur, Exeter and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bertrand, St Marys were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Rea Stephen. Mrs. Jack Urquhart and Miss Heather Urquhart spent a few days this week with Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Donohoe. at Mississauga. Mrs. Garth Blackler, Mrs. Gerald Paul, Mrs. Roger Urquhart Mrs. Jack Urquhart and Heather at- tended a bridal shower in Toronto Sunday, pigeons and rabbits. In the poultry division, Cliff Pepper exhibited the best standard bird and George Tiernan was the winner in bantams, - The top winner in pigeons was Doug Cooper while Donald Dearing emerged as the top turkey exhibitor. Knudsen and Dennis of Petrolia were winners in rabbits and ducks and geese. In the poultry division Cliff Pepper wasthe major winner in standard birds and George Tiernan took the most prizes in the bantams section. The overall vegetable winner was Mrs. Harold Cudmore and John Kingma won the commercial vegetable feature. in heavy horses Bob Tin- dall was the winner with Meadow Pony Stables tak- ing the most awards in light horses. Arnold Young was the winner in the heavy hitch men's and women's driving classes. Donald Dearing showed the champion Dorset sheep ewe while Darren Faber had the best ram. In Suffolk breed the procedure was reversed with Dearing show- ing the champion ram and Faber the ewe. Louis Emke took top honours in Oxford Downs and any other varieties. In the market barrow hog class the winner was Gerald Dearing followed by Peter Dearing. Tom Hern Jr., Hugh Rundle. Alan Benning, Tom Triebner. Bill Renning, Bob Down, Denise Benning and Murray Rundle. Bob Down was the winner .in grain and seeds. A FAIR PLANT — Ruth Maclaren brings a plant to the Exeter Fair Friday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Gartenhurg. Peter is at- tached to the Aerospace Engineering Testing Establishment (AETE) at Canadian Forces Base. Cold Lake. Alberta. Mrs. I.ouis Davis, Wallaceburg and Mrs. Dave Davis and Jason of London visited Saturday afternoon with Miss Jean Copeland. Miss Jean Copeland joined Mr. and Mrs. Dave Davis and Jason of London on Sun- day on a Shunpiker Trip sponsored by the Holy Trini- ty Anglican Church ending up at Pinafore Park, St. Thomas for a picnic supper. Mr. and Mrs. John Orr of Atwood visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Jaques and girls. A miscellaneous shower was held in the Churobbase- ment on Wednesday when Susan Spence was honoured prior to her forthcoming marriage. A number from the com- munity attended the wed- ding and reception on Friday evening of Mary Johnson daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Johnson, to Casey Van Den Berge of London.
