church news
The Rev. Phyllis Barnes
was the guest minister at
Granton United Church on
Sunday while the Rev.
Elwood Morden took the an-
niversary service at
Wellburn United Church.
Rev. Barnes said "The'uare
of the earth is everyone's
responsibility, we are meant
to be God's life preservers
for the earth, and all
creatures great and small.
Whenpurchasingsome fur-
niture polish, I had to choose
between whale oil or spray, I
could not make tip my mind
whether to contribute to wip-
ing out whales or polluting
the air, said the minister,
however here and there we
see signs of hope. We read in
the Observer that oil is being,
cleaned. recycled and sold at
a cheaper price, perfume
made from pulp and by driv-
ing slower we can save gas.
In her talk to the children
Rev. Barnes, illustrated it
with the contents of a bag
with a bird's nest, a jar con-
taining grains of sand and a
butterfly with a broken
wing, and explained that
God puts us in charge of His
creatures and the things he
has made and to be kind to
them.
Coffee was served at the
conclusion of the service by
members of the C.G.I.T.

Church the Rev. Greg Smith

High school paper
makes term debut
The Overview began its se-
cond year as South Huron's
school newspaper when it
rolled off the presses, Fri-
day.
The paper, which had a
circulation of about 300, is
both written and produced
by school students, with the
help of their staff advisor.
Bill Johnston, Jane Sims,
Overview editor, feels the
newspaper fulfills a very
necessary role in school life.
"I think a school
newspaper is as important
as any other student activity
in fostering school spirit,
and it needs to be sup-
ported", Sims said. She
would like to increase both
circulation and student con-
tributionto the paper, which
she plans to publish on a bi-
monthly basis.
Sims also anticipates ad-
ding more artwork, cooking
features and in the hall sur-
veys with students to the
paper.
