Football starts
here Thursday
by Matt McClure
The football teams at
South Huron have been prac-
tising fervently the past
week in preparation for their
first games.
The juniors travelled to
Stratford Northwestern
yesterday for an exhibition
match and both teams will
open their regular season at
home tomorrow against
Listowel. The senior game
starts at 1:30 with the junior
match to follow. The public
is welcome to attend.
'After a controlled scrim-
mage on Friday senior coach
Ron Bogart said, ;'We're
starting to get at different
positions and will certainly
be ready for Thursday." The
only major problem he sees
with the 28 member squad is
that they lack depth.
"A couple of injuries could
put us into deep trouble",
Bogart said. Norm Regier

Centennials
beat Goderich
in exhibition
With a two week break
between the regular season
and the playoffs, the Exeter
senior Centennial soccer
team arranged an exhibition
game last Sunday afternoon
against a team from
Goderich in which they won
2-0.
Although playing with only
nine men Exeter played a
strong game especially
defensively with Bill White,
John Rasenburg and Dave
Holmes playing a strong
game. Exeter came close
but didn't score as the first
half ended with neither team
scoring.
The second halt started
well for Exeter. A perfectly
placed pass by half Gerald
Weersink enabled Paul
Vandewalle to break away to
score the games first goal.
The Centennials pressed
hard with Shawn Rotteau,
Alfons Weersink, Paul
Vandewalle and John Muller
controlling the play in the
opponents end. Just before
the final whistle blew Paul
Vandewalle scored as a
result a Goderich defensive
miscue.
Although not pressured too
much substitute goalie Jerry
Vandewalle played well
when the time counted.
Exeter's first playoff
game is against Sarnia's St.
Clair Hotel at Norm Perry
Park in Sarnia next Sunday
night at 6:30.
