Home Activities were reviewed. K -W Optimist club has life member Brian Bertrand was named a life ._,ember of the Kirkton-Wocv :tarn Optimist club at Monday's annual ladies night. The presen- tation was made by retiring president Murray Musty. As his final duty, past president Musty turned over the club gavel to incoming president Lloyd Fletcher. In a brief address, Musty said, 1980-81 was a good year with the club becoming more stable. I see a good future for you in an excellent com- munity. A presentation of jackets was made by Cliff Thomson to two ladies who were very helpful in operating the Optimist minor ball program. They were Cathy McCormick and Carol Edwards. The optimists are spon- soring a new activity this fall. The farm of Bill Denham, just east of Kirkton will be the site of grass drag races and entries are invited for a variety of classifications. Mrs. Cooper read an article of Elaine Townshend entitled "A little understanding". The conveners of Educa- tion and Cultural Activities, Mrs. Jerry Grubb and Mrs. Ivan Brock were in charge of the program. Mrs. Brock read an article out of the Home and Country commen- ting on themotto"Share your knowledge and it will grow." Mrs. Brock introduced Allan Pym and Carolyn Dykeman both who had won public speaking contests. Allan spoke on John Lennon and Carolyn spoke on televi- sion commercials and both were very interesting and deserve alot of praise for Bring back Targe pike By MRS. IRVIN RADER DASHWOOD Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Restemayer spent a week at Inverlochy where the fishing was excellent. Mrs. Restemayer caught an eleven pound 35 inch long pike. Mr. and Mrs. Leeland Restemayer spent the weekena were with them. The fox which was there in the spring now has two young ones and they are all tame. The cottagers had great fun with them. Mrs. John Heckman is in South Huron Hospital having suffered a fall in her home. Mrs. Fred Messner is a patient in University hospital, London, recovering from a stroke she had several weeks ago. Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Pfile celebrated their 59th wed- ding anniversary Sunday, September 20th. by giving a donation to the Lutheran Hour and placing flowers in Zion Lutheran church. Guests for the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Koessel, Lansing, Mich., and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Kuntz, Grand Bend. Mr. and Mrs. Roland Gibson and family, Denfield, were Sunday guests with Mrs. Frieda Keller. Mgt. Bill Becker is a patient in Victoria hospital, London, where she un- derwent surgery; Bill Adams will have eye surgery in St. Joseph's hospital this week. Wednesday, September 23, Rev. Barbara Laing will show slides of Israel at Calvary United Church. Service honours disabled The United Church Sunday service was in honour of the disabled. The special speaker was Elaine Townshend, Clinton, who shared some of her own experiences. their winning efforts. Mrs. Lorne Hern, the first lady council member in Usborne was introducednext. She told the members why she first decided to run for council and also told a little about the work of council. She had a lot of informa- tion for the Institute members. Mrs. Brock thanked all three speakers and presented them with a gift. The president conducted the business. The Hensall Women's Institute will be holding a dessert euchre, Oc- tober 21 at 1 p.m. and Elim- ville is invited. Mrs. Leone Brock reported that the Hospital rummage sale will be held October 14 and 15. The members reported a good time was held by all when Grand Bend Women's Institute entertainedat apic- nic in June. The fair exhibit is just about ready for Exeter Fair. Mrs. Philip Johns com- mented on World Food Day which will be marked on Oc- tober 16. Mrs. Elson Lynn commented on Bill no. 7 now being discussed in parlia- ment. HAROLD DAVIS The U.C.W. meeting was held in the church basement. Mrs. Clayton Ross convened the meeting,she read a poem on missions. Scripture reading was read by Mrs. Lorne Marshall; Mrs. Ross gave an informative talk on Mutual-ality in Missions and the work Michael Chandou, a missionary. in Alberta is do- ing. The ladies learned a new hymn "The Right Hand of God" Mrs. Jack Switzer closed the worship service with prayer. Mrs. George Burgin welcomed the members and Mrs. Roger Urquhart read the minutes of the June meeting when the ladies visited Wildwood Nursing Home. Twenty-eight members answered the roll call. Mrs. Burgin gave an infor- mative and interesting report on school for leaders which she had attended at Alma College St. Thomas. The ladies plan to have a tea towel shower at the October meeting. ACW meet The A.C.W. met on Thurs- day evening at the home of Mrs. Burns Blackler. Mrs. J. McCormick presided at the meeting. Meditation was read by Mrs. Walter Creery, Scripture by Mrs. Rev. Smith. A donation was voted to St. Monica House Waterloo. Mrs. Reverend Smith was the speaker and gave a few highlights of the Huron Church camp programs and showed pictures. Meeting closed by repeating the Benediction. Lunch was served by the hostess.
