School rules set down At an assembly, Wed- nesday at South Huron District High School students were read the rules of the school by vice-principal, Gordon Phillips. The half hour reading is one of the results of a consensus reached by the staff and administration that students should obey the rules now in place. "The teachers were dissatisfied with certain aspects of student behaviour and as well, I think students need a general reminder of the policy and proceedings in the school", Philips said later. Bruce Shaw, students council president announced a program of hall duty at Wednesday's assembly, that will see an increased role for prefects in exacting discipline . Speaking about the prefects he cautioned students to "listen to them, because they're mean." School principal, Joe Wooden closed the assembly by suggesting that there were two views students and teachers could take about the present school year. "You could call it a war - there's you and there's us. Team may be pared By MATT McCLU RE For the first year since coach Jim Workman founded the South Huron fieldhockey team seven years ago, he feels he may have to make cuts. This year Workman has 25 hopefuls crying for berths on the squad. The increase in popularity of the sport at South Huron can be attributed to the success the team has had in recent years. Last season, the team was Huron -Perth champion, WOSSA finalist and an impressive 5th at OFSAA. 'Fieldhockey has also grown in popularity with the administration at the school," Workman notes. The team has purchased some new goalie equipment and sticks with its athletic budget allotment this year. Unfortunately, the condition of the sport at other schools in the conference isn't quite as healthy. Stratford Nor- thwestern has dropped out this year, leaving only four teams in the league. "I think we'll win Huron - Perth, and we should be in there at WOSSA", Workman predicted about this year's team. The graduation from last year's squad of Bonnie Keys, the team's principal scorer, and Barb Rader, defensive standout, leave two big vacancies for Workman to fill. However, he is confident that Marilyn Brand will be able to replace Rader. As for scoring, Workman said, "I'm hoping we can spread out the goal production between two or three players, this year." Cheryl Cann, Brenda Brand and Karen Brand are players that Workman feels he can count on for this of- fense. Among the many new players who Workman has trying out, Grade 9 student, Kendra Arthur and Grade 13 Cindy Janke show the most promise. At present, the team's schedule isn't finalized, but it does include an October tournament in Toronto, against some of the province's best high school teams.
