The Culvert at the Hodgins Street entrance to Clandeboye was badly washed out whsle at the north end water was four feet past the centre line in front of Dick Worthingtons, despite the slope of the highway approaching the curve. Water was running over the road six to eight inches deep from the United Chtirch to Carter's store also several places south of the village. At Orville Rollings home the water was rushing in one door of the breezeway and out the other side. Many basements were flooded but by Wednesday morning the water had almost disap- peared leaving the mopping up and drying out contend with . Anglican Church The 61st Annual service of Commemoration and Rededication was held on Sunday in St. James Anglican Church, Clan- deboye. Rev. Bruce Pocock rector. led the service and the message was given by Rev. Keith Brown of the United Church. Special music was presented by Penny Hodgins Kippen ladies at 4-H event By MRS. RENA CALDWELL Irene Finlayson and Margaret Hoggarth attended training school Wednesday and Thursday for the up- coming 4-H club, 'Which came first. the chicken or the egg?" Classes will begin September 15 at 7:15 p.m. at the home of leader Margaret Hoggarth. Any girls in- terested in taking the club contact either of the leaders. Kippen East W.I. will meet at the home of Mrs. Wm Be11, September 16. Mildred Chalmers is in charge of lunch, Agnes Eyre has the motto and Mrs. Theo Wisch is the speaker. Bean harvest is stalled in a sea of mud after 11 days of rain and very warm temperatures. and Rev. Pocock with their own guitar accompaniment. Beautiful flowers blanketed the cemetery in memory of loved ones. At Short Course Seventeen ladies from Clandeboye area were among the large attendance at the short course "Fund Raising with Bazaars" sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Home Economics Branch, held in Ilderton Communiity Branch hall, Tuesday. Home Economist, Grace Whittington explained the importance of good organization when planning a bazaar. She also described and discussed articles that sell well at bazaars and craft shows as well as articles that do not. Suggestions and new ideas were exchanged among the ladies present and everyone felt it was a very interesting afternoon. Bus Trip Lena Rollings, Edie Worthington and Pat and Jean Hodgins enjoyed a bus tour to Chatham on Thur- sday sponsored by the Granton Women's Institute. During the morning they had a guided tour of the Pioneer Seed Corn Company and at noon a delicious hot meal, compliments of Pioneer Corn. The afternoon included a guided tour of the city of Chatham as well as an inside look at the famous "Wheels Inn." Next they visited the Charal Winery west of Blenheim with a guided tour there before returning home by 7 p.m.. Personals Rev. and Mrs. Stanley Tomes and family of Little Current Manitoulin Island visited with relatives in the community during the weekend and were guests at the Lynn-Twynstra wedding on Saturday. Mrs. Edna Clark, Parkhill Bill and Linda Ratcliffe and Laura of London were Sunday evening visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hardy and family. Murray Dawson returned home Tuesday evening after hav- ing spent almost a week at their cottage on Lake Timiskaming. Mr. and Mrs. Rob Baxter, Fullarton and Mr. and Mrs. Ken Duncan spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Pat Weir at Timmins and other points north recently. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Stewart returned home Tuesday after holidaying in the West with their daughter Sylvia at Calgary. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Rowe and family spent a iew days last week holidaying at Niagara Falls. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Dawson. Larry and Brent attended the Siemon reunion at Brodhagen Community Centre. Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Van Massenhoven. Ailsa Craig were Sunday supper guests with the tatters parents Mr. and Mrs. Ross Ballantyne. Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Shier. Kirkton. and Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Rohde, Exeter visited with Mr. and Mrs. William Rohde. Promotion service A good crowd attended the first fall church service of which Mr. Lorne Thrower of Hensall was, in charge. Mr. Thrower told the children a story. Mr. David Cunnington. superintendent of the Sunday school called each member forward to the front of the church. Each member passed through the arch which was decorated with greenery. gladioli and dahlias. The Young People's class members are Jeff Borland. David Cunnington. Gerald Hodgert. Pat Hodgert, Scott Hodgert. and Dennis Pym. Mrs. Murray Dawson is their teacher. Intermediate Class members are Barry Cun- nington. Steven Pym: and Brad Borland who graduated from the Junior class. The Official Board meeting will be held Wednesday evening September 16 at Elimville United Church. Around 40 people attended a Social evening for the Thames Road pee wee baseball team Friday even- ing at Elimville Hall. The boys under the leadership of their coaches Mrs. Don Lewis and Wayne vine ane tiensall recently at the tournament at Cromar- ty. Congratulations. The bons on the team are Brad Borland.
