IRVIN RADER E)ashwood Women's Institute met Tuesday, September 1 for the first fall meeting with. Mrs. Gordon Bender. presiding. New programs were hand- ed out. and with Mary Broadfoot at the piano. the opening Ode and several songs from the W.I. new song sheets were sung. Roll calf was "Care. to keep house plants healthy". An adult workshop will be held to October on quilts with Mrs Eben Weigand and Mrs Gordon Bender as leaders Two delegates, Mrs Hilda Rader and Mrs. Gordon Bender will attend the W I fall rally at Belgrave in October. Leaders for the new 4-11 project 'Which came first. the chicken or the egg?" are Mrs' Rav Rader and Mrs. Earl Keller Mrs Bender then turned the meeting over to the Agriculture and Canadian Industries convener, Mrs. Emil Becker. The group con- ducted a penny sale of vegetables. baking, plants, jams and crafts. Bunco followed with Mrs. Harold Carroll high and Mrs. Frieda Keller low. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Miller. who have moved to town from their RR 2, Dashwood. farm were taken by surprise Saturday even- ing August 29 when old neighbors called for a social evening of cards and reminiscing. There were 29 present. They presented them with a mirror and a pair of ceramic horses. Oscar and Laura were delighted. Miss Shiela Willert, bride - elect o_ f September has been feted by several showers. The accounting department at Dashwood Industries held a shower for her. Her aunt. Mrs. Nora Weido and Mrs. Ruth Greb were hostesses at the former's home for relatives of the bride. Mrs. Eben Weigand and Mrs. Leonard Restemayer were hostesses at Dashwood com- munity centre for neighbors of the bride. Mrs. Wilbur Stewart, Lon- don, spent several days with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gaiser and girls. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Rader were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Wellwood Gill. Craigweil Gardens. Ailsa Craig. Laurie Becker. Trenton. spent the weekend with her arents. Mr and Mrs. Bill Becker and family. Elizabeth Datars and Don Beaver have returned to their studies at Fanshawe College. A Targe number from here attended the .Hayter - Overholt wedding at Mt. Carmel Church and the dinner and reception at the Exeter Ree Centre. A be- quesf flowers from the wedding was placed in Zion Lutheran Church. Sue Anne Schroeder will be working in Hull for the secretary of state of Quebec in the translation depart- ment. Sandra Schroeder will be working in London as a counselor for the mentally retarded They are the daughters of Jake and Pat Schroeder. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Oxen - f orth. Winnipeg. were Fri- day visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Mason and Doug. Calvary United church Sunday School will start Sun- day. September 13 at 9:45 Mr. and Mrs. George Tieman spent the weekend at Waterdown with Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hoperoft .and family. As most of the Robert Hayter Sr. family were home for the Hayter - Overholt wedding, a family reunion was held Sunday afternoon at -the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hayter and family. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bruce Wind- sor: Mr. and Mrs. John Snyder. Brantford: Mrs. Grace Beavis and Mr. and Mrs. Don Duffy and family. Detroit: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hayter and family: Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hayter and family. Goderich: Mr. and Mrs. Earl Vandahl. Earl (Jr.) and Mr. and Mrs. Doug Vandahl and Robert. Montreal. Bob's two sons. Rick. New York and Jeff. Toronto. were home also. Mr. and Mrs. George Wolfe and Claudine, Toron- to: Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wolfe and family, Dorchester; and Mr. and Mrs. Eric Wolfe and family London. were weekend guests with Mrs. Stuart Wolfe. They all attended an Eagleson family reunion at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hamather, Hensall, Sunday. The families of the late Paul and Violet Ducharme, 200 in all. attended a family reunion at Dashwood com- munity centre Sunday. A great time was held by all. FRED BOWDEN Kay Tripp and Mildred Greb were hostesses for a miscellaneous shower in the schoolroom of the United Church Thursday evening in honour of Debra (Harrison) Tilley. Diane McIntyre greeted the guests. Debbie Tilley and Susan Hodgins assisted the bride in displaying her gifts. A reading "Love" was given by Leanna Tripp. Contests were conducted. Debra ex- pressed her appreciation for the lovely gifts. Community residents presented Mrs. Joe Eagleson ( the former Joanne Smyth) with a gift of money in honour of her re- cent marriage. Both brides have our best wishes for many years of happiness. Personals Mrs. Alison Brigden of Toronto ( formerly of Waubaushine) was a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins for a cou- ple of days last week. Mr. and Mrs. Hodgins and Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Morley, Lieury were visitors with their brother. Mr. Chas Hodgins. in Chesley over the Labor Day weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Greb nded the Steam Era Guild meets at Brinsley By GORDON MnRLEY - The ladies guild of St. Mary's Church met in the church basement Wed- nesday evening. Members answered the roll call by exchanging houseplants and slips. Plans were made for several up -coming functions including the annual bazaar, bake sale and tea, which will be held on Thursday November 19 at 8:30 p.m. The guest speaker was Mrs. Beth Smith of Lucan, who gave an interesting and moving talk on being the parent of a disabled child. Hostess for the meeting were Mrs. Lois Morgan and Mrs. Elizabeth Corbett. Mrs. Don Newey and Carol London visited Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Trivithick. Mr. and Mrs. George Prest had a short holiday in the area of Kingston recently. Ruth Trevi thick has returned to Etobicoke to resume her duties as a teacher after the holiday. PETER MARTIN CREDITON Thursday evening the ladies of the United Church Women met in the Sunday School Rooms for their first meeting of the fall. Norma Fahner, Alma Schwartz, Clara Ratz and Doris Sch- wartz conducted the worship service. Nola Ratz showed slides on her trip to Alaska. President, Jean Neil opened the business portion with a prayer. Various reports were given and approved. Group 3 is in charge of a social evening at the Zurich Bluewater Rest Home, September 8 at 7 p.m. The Fall Regional will be held at Kippen, September 30, at 12:30 It is hoped the cook- books will be ready for the October meeting. The U.C.W. ladies are invited to join with the Women's Institute at their September 16 meeting. It will be held in the hall at 8 :15. Mrs. Neil then closed with prayer and lunch was served by Velma Russell, Clara Ratz and Mary Kenney. The first meeting of the 4- H girls, "What Came First, the Chicken or the egg;" course will be held at the hall at 7:30. Girls 12 by Sep- tember 1 are welcome to join. Mrs. Ida Smith is a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter. Mr. and Mr,. Fred Turn- bull have returned to New Orleans after spending two weeks holidays Pt the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Lamport. They also visited friends and relatives in the area. Dr. and Mrs. Robt. Turn- bull visited Wednesday at the Lloyd Lamport home. Jim. Betty and Jimmy Chappell have returned to their home in Surrey B.C. after a two week.Visit with Ruth Skinner, Grace Motley, Crediton and Clare and Ted Skihner, London.
