Astros hit
second spot
The Lucan Astros a first
year team in the
Southwestern men's fastball
league concluded regular
season play last Sunday
night with a 4-3 victory over
Ilderton. The Astros record
is 21-9 and good for second
place.
The-eAstros had a very
successful week collecting
three wins. Tuesday night, a
two run single by Rick
Freeman in the top of the
sixth inning was all the runs
the Astros needed in route to
a 2-0 victory over Poplar
Hill.
Freeman also displayed
some superb pitching and he
recorded 14 strikeouts and
allowed just one hit.
Thursday night. the Astros
overcame a 6-1 deficit and
finally scored the go-ahead
run in the eighth inning as
they defeated Lieury by a
narrow score of 8-7.
A two -out. two run scoring
double by Paul Wraith enabl-
ed the Astros to battle back
to tie the Lieury squad ana
that paved the way for the
tie breaking run on a solo
home run by Rick Freeman
who also picked up the win in
relief and making his season
record to an impressive 12
win 3 losses.
Sunday night. Paul Wraith
scattered seven hits enroute
to pitching the Astros to a 4-3
victory over Ilderton. The
winning run came in the
seventh inning when with
two out. Gary Maslen reach-
ed first base onanerror and
scored on Doug Latta's two
out run scoring triple.

Soccer teams busy
The Lucan atom Spurs
soccer team downed
Taxandria 3-1 and were held
to a 2-2 draw by the Exeter II
club.
After a two week lay off,
the Lucan tearnlooked a little
rusty and managed to hold
Taxandria to a 1-1 tie at the
half -tithe, the Lucan goal
being scored by Chris Bell.
The second half was
evenly matched and the
turning point came with 7
minutes left in the game.
Taxandria were awarded a
penalty which goal keeper
Steven Clark did well to
1 save.
From his clearance the
Lucan team moved into the
offense scoring two quick
goals, one each by Brian
Heessels and Stephen
Snider.
The 2-2 tie with Exeter was
a very well played, close
game. Lucan took a 2-0 lead
at the half time, with both
goals being scored by
Leadine goal scorer Brian
Heessels. He has now scored
17 goals in 10 games.
The Lucan defence played

Revival
Centre
William Davis was in
charge of the morning
service. Peter Butler
reviewed the financial status
of the church, presenting
three -plans to lower the
mortgage.
Mr. Davis spoke on how to
be delivered from giants of
bad circumstances . From 1
Samuel 17 he said the size of
the giant with his armour
caused the Israeletes to fall
back. A big problem can do
this to us. As this giant called
for an individual so satan
seeks us out when we are
alone.
If this giant won the fight,
the Israeletes would be his
slaves. If the devil wins over
us we will be his slaves. The
greatest danger today is
listening to depressing
thoughts from the enemy,
coming to you for days
persistently. Then we need to
see the enemy and the
problem for what it is, a
defeated foe in God's sight.
There is a divine principle
that Christians should know
who they are in God, as the
church of the living God.
Jesus said the gates of hell
shall not prevail against
His church. David trusted
God to deliver him, then slew
the giant. In faith we are to
trust God to deliver us.
Lucan Revival Centre
Martha Sullivan sang
Thank You Jesus, after
William Davies opened the
evening service with prayer
and singing.
Gary 'Schlegel spoke from
Eph. 4:1-6. Because we have
been called out of sin, our
conduct as Christians should
be worthy of God's call. Our
Christian walk should be in
love, helping and guiding one
another in the truth of God.
Christians should make
every effort to keep .unity in
peace, as God is unity. This
unity of God's Spirit can be
kept in the bond of peace.

Meek are blessed
UC sermon theme
Helen and Bob Patterson
welcomed members and
friends to the service on
Sunday in the Lucan United
Church when Rev. Keith
Browrcontinued his series on
the Beatitudes, speaking on
"Blessed are the meek for
they shall inherit the earth"
"Our world is full of self-
centeredness, injustice,
strikes, etc.," said Mrs.
Brown, "and this, un-
fortunately seems to be the
history of mankind". It also
seems many of those who
succeed are very self-
assertive, but this is not what
the Beatitudes teach us.
Christ's ideals and His life
are different because He has
been born of the Spirit of God
and it is only in this
relationship with God that
this Beatitude can be
realized.
Meekness seems now to
mean spinelessness, devoid
of any vigour and no longer a
virtue. The Biblical point of
view is that meekness is a
gift from God and only His
spirit can create this gift.
When Christ suffered He
did not retaliate, therefore,
meekness is 'mtrol of a
natural impulse to "hit
back" and requires great
strength. A meek person has
power over his or her actions
and this is a spiritual vic-
tory. Those who are meek
also have power with others
as shown by Mases and
Abraham.
The reward of the meek is
that they will possess all that
God has planned for them
from the beginning and into
eternity.
May we let the Holy Spirit
have His way Sn.,gur daily
lives so we may grow more
and more like Jesus.
Jeannie Jones' ministry in

Morning Prayer was the

question in the Bible, "But,
who do you say that I am ?"
Peter, without hesitation,
replied "You are the
Messiah, the Son of the
living God."
This is the question we
need to ask ourselves and
how would we answer? The
most of us would first need to
rid ourselves of the many
preconceived notions of what
the Messiah is. He is the
Anointed one promised to
His people by God for our
salvation.
We deny God in so many
ways by putting boundaries
around Him, forgetting that
He is the Almighty,
everlasting God, and knows
no boundaries. When we are
able to accept Jesus as our
Saviour then we can also
accept Him as the Messiah,
the Son of the Living God.
Services continue next
