Monday will be registra-
tion only and regular school
will 'begin on Tuesday
September 15
Elaine Overholt will be the
new nursery school teacher
and comes to us with plenty
of experience and lots of
enthusiasm for youngsters
of perschool age.
Monday's registration will
be held at the nursery school
between 9 and 11:30 a.m.
Fees for nursery school this
Year will be 53 per day and
50c per day for a second
child in the family.

boys teams took part in their
playoff tourney this
weekend The Blue Jays won
their first game putting
them in the A division and

knocking them out of the
tourney.
The Pirates lost their first
game of the tourney sending
them into the E3 division and
then fought back to capture
the D championship.
Congratulations to both
teams for a fine showing.
The Huron Park bantam
boys were put out of their
playoffs last week when they
dropped their double header
Wednesday to a strong
Lucan entry. Nice try guys!
The last week of swim
lessons are on at Stephen
Township pool this week.
The pools last clay of opera-
tion will be this Sunday
August 30 so anyone wishing
to catch a last dip in the pool
should do so this week.
Youngsters taking lessons
in session 3 will be treated to
instruction in canoe safety
this Friday with Jim
Merrylees, Thanks to Jim
for offering to come in with
the canoe.
Huron Park wading pool
closed this past Friday for
the season. Thanks to Chris
Kennedy for taking care of
the pool for us.
Hockey school is now win-
ding down at Stephen
township arena and soon
groups will be preparing for
their winter sports
programs. Anyone wishing
information on arena
programs should call

Tigers advance OBA
The Dashwood Tigers
wasted little time in
reaching the Ontario
Baseball Association semi-
final playoffs.
The Tigers eliminated the
Thorndale Angels in two
straight games. They won
15-4 in Thorndale Friday
night and came right back
with a 12-7 decision on their
home field Sunday after-
noon.
The next opposition for the
Dashwood club was not
known at press time Tues-
day. but. it is expected to
come from the Western
Counties area and play
should be going this
weekend.
Tuesday, the Tigers won
the Great Lakes senior
championship with a, 14-8
victory over Arva to sweep
the best -of -three series in
two straight games.
The Tigers started their
scoring ways early and had
built up an 8-1 lead by the end
of the fourth inning as pit-
cher Perry Stover kept the
Arva bats pretty well in
check.
Singles by Barry
Baynham, Bob Hoffman,
Jim Guenther and Glenn
Thurman produced four
Tiger runs in the first inning.
In the Dashwood fourth
hits by Perry Stover and
Barry Baynham helped to
send five more runs across
the plate.
Hits by Luc Gagnon and
Jim Guenther powered a two
run rally in the fifth and Jim.
Dietrich doubled and scored
in the sixth.
A Jim Dietrich single in
the seventh sent Glenn
Thurman and Perry Stover
home and Bob Hoffman
walked in the eighth and
came home on ,Jim Guen-
ther's fourth hit of the game
and a safety by Thurman.
Southpaw Jim Guenther
was the big man for the
Tigers Sunday. In addition to
getting the pitching win by
scattering an even dozen
hits. Guenther was very
productive at the plate. He
slammed out two long home
runs. Both came with the
bases empty leading off the
fourth and seventh innings.
The Tigers hit the
scoreboard in the third in-
ning with two runs as the
result of a successful suicide
squeeze bunt which was well
executed.
With Luc Gagnon on at
third base and Barry
Baynham at second. Glenn
semi-final
Thurman dropped. a good
bunt down to score Gagnon
and Baynham on the move
scored on a bad throw.
Thorndale jumped u) front
on a three run homer in the
top of the fourth. but.
Guenther put his team hack
on even terms with his first
round tripper.
Singles by Barry Baynham
and Bob Hoffman and a
home run from the hat of
Rob Dickey were responsi-
ble for five Tiger tallies in
the fifth inning.
In the Dashwood sixth.
Barry Baynham walked.
Red Army remains
only .unbeaten club
The Red Army remains as
the only undefeated team in
the Huron Park summer
hockey league as the result
of a 6-2 Sunday victory over
the Cannabas.
In other league play Sun-
day. Pfaff Electric downed
the Islanders 9-3 and the
Flyers defeated Crediton by
a score of 7-4.
Four unaswered goals in
the last half of the game
allowed the Red Army to
continue their undefeated
streak after they were held
to a -2 tie in the first part of
the game.
Gary Sauder opened the
game scoring for the Can-
nabas early in the first
period on a three-way effort
with Randy Stanlake and
Ralph Wells.
In the last minute of the
first session. Bill Glover and
Steve Batten counted to put
the Red Army in front.
Early in the second frame,
Ralph Wells converted a
pass from Mick Mills and
,the score was again even.
The four straight goals
wei)e notched by Perry
Pooley. Tom Coates. Perry
Stover and John Kernick.

Brian Taylor fired four
successful shots to lead the
Pfaff scoring attack
Wes Lockhart scored two
goals to pace the Flyers
scoring in their win over
Crediton. Notching single
goals were Paul Glavin.
Dave Schuyler. Danny
Lagerwerf, Gary McLeod
and George Tomes.
The Crediton marksmen in
single fashion, were Matt
Muller. Jamie Caldwell. Al
Harford and Dan Bell.

around to score on a Glenn
Thurman single.
In the Tiger seventh Jim
Guenther opened with his se-
cond homer and Perry
Stover and Rob Dickey
scored after drawing walks.
The other Dashwood hit
not involved in a scoring in-
ning was a single by Pete
Wuerth in the second stanza.
In the first game of the
series. lefty John Bruijns
held Thorndale to only six
hits while recording a total
of 15 strikeouts.
The Tigers broke the game
wide open with seven runs in
their frist trip to the plate.
Providing the scoring power
were singles by Luc Gagnon.
John Bruijns. Rob Dickey
and Jim Dietrich along with
three walks.
The Dashwood bats were
quiet until the sixth when
Gagnon was safe on an error
and scored on a Jim
Guenther single
Singles by Doug Fairbairn,
Rob Dickey and Jim
Dietrich sent John Bruijns
home with the ninth Tiger
score in the seventh.
In the eighth. Rob Dickey
and Kevin Hern singled. Jim
Dietrich doubled and John
Bruijns cracked a home run
to complete a five run in-
ning.
Jim Guenther homered to
lead off the Tiger ninth and
end his team's scoring.
Swim team
wins meet
The Exeter swim team
won a district meet against
four area centres in Kirkton
recently.
The locals compiled a total
of 226 points. eight more
than runnerup Kirkton. New
Hamburg was third with 198
followed by Harriston 119
and Mitchell 44.
Lynn Stephens led the Ex-
eter swimmers with three
first place finishes in the
girls 13 and 14 years
freestyle. breaststroke and
medley.
She was also a member of
the winning 200 free relay
team along with Liz Cottrell,
Tena 'Brand and Sandra
Baarda.
Rob Russell was home
first in the 25 breastroke for
9 and 10 years old boys.
Russell also combined
with Troy Smaill, Rob Oliver
and Shawn Forsythe to win
the boys 10 and under free
relay.
The Exeter boys 11 and 12
years team won the 200 free
relay. Members were Dave
Russell, Dan Oliver, Tim
Campbell and Mike Berg.
Rob Russell was also se-
cond in the 50 freestyle as
was Dave Russell in his
category of freestyle and
Troy Smaill in the 25
backcrawl.
Other second place
finishes were Jeff Heywood
and Melissa Smaill while
placing third were Liz Cot-
trell, Dave Russell, Troy
Smaill, Donny Morley, Rob
Oliver, Melissa Smaill, Jeff
Heywood and Rob Oliver.
IRONWOOD
Paul Van Gerwen fired a
37 to win low gross honours
in the "A" flight at
Tuesday's regular men's
night at the Ironwood golf
club.
Van Gerwen recorded five
pars and two birdies on the
way to his victory.
Terry O'Rourke's 39 was
the next low gross score
while Scott Burton and Don
Heywood were the best in
low net at 30 and 33, respec-
tively.
Don Ellison with a 42 had
the low gross score in 'B'
flight and Marsh Dearing's
33 was the low net score.
Jerry MacLean notched a
48 as the low gross com-
petitor in 'C' flight and Ed
Little had the low net at 32.
In 'D' flight Doug Johnson
and Lee Webber were the
gross and net winners with
scores of 49 and 35.
