DJ's, Jets Boys are winners in local rec fastball tournament
The Zurich DJ's and the
Exeter Jet Boys won the two
championship trophies In the
weekend Rec fastball tour-
nament held at Exeter Com-
munity park.
In the 'A' final, the Zurich
DJ's swamped the Exeter
Sultans of Swat 15-1 to take
home the Labatt trophy
while the Jet Boys downed
Zurich Dominion Taverners
10-3 to take home the 'B'
silverware.
In semi-final games in 'A'
play, the DJ's beat the Oil
Burners 6-3 while the Sultans
of Swat were defeating the
Hensall Legionaires 10-8.
The 'B' semi finals saw,
the Jet Boys defeat the Blue
Birds 9-0 while Dominion
Tavern beat the Chiefs 4-1.
In earlier play, the cham-
pion DJ's edged Hurondale
5-3 and the Oil Burners 6-3
while the Sultans of Swat
defeated the Carpetbaggers
7-9 and Dominion Tavern 10-
9.
The Jet Boys blanked the
Teachers 4-0 and Les Pines
2-0 and lost 9-7 to the
Teachers in the first game.
Other scores were Carpet-
baggers 9. Elm Haven 0;

They counted three more
times in the third on singles
by Rick Skinner, Joe
Becker, Jeff Fuller and Pete
Tuckey.
Rick Skinner doubled and
Steve Pearce singled to
produce the final three runs
for the Jet Boys in the sixth.
The only Zurich batters to
double and single. Kim
McKinnon and Mike Clarke
added a home run blast for
the winners.
Dave Clarke was next with
two doubles and a single and
Ken Clarke was good for a
double and single.
The Sultans of Swat hits
were all singles by Dave
Atthill, Ron Bogart and Brad
In the 'B' championship
contest. Rick Skinner was
the winning pitcher and the
only trouble he ran into was
in the fifth inning when the
Taverners scored all three
runs. He retired the side in
order in five of the other six
innings.
Doubles by Joe Becker and
Steve Pearce were the big
Dashwood bantams win
The Dashwood bantams
won the WOAA bantam `E'
championship Tuesday when
they defeated Hanover in the
final game of a best -of -three
series.
Hanover took the first
game at home Sunday by a
margin of 6-2. but
Dashwood rebounded to win
the next three games on
their home diamond with
scores of 6-5, Monday and 4-1
to wrap up the title.
Dashwood now advances
to the OBA playdowns. They
get a bye in the first round
and meet the winner of the
Malden Centre -Wyoming
series.
In the first game the
Ha nosier team took a 2-0 lead
in the second and never look-
ed back.
Hanover scored three
more runs in the third inning
and a final run in the sixth
frame.
Dashwood pitcher Trevor
Johnston gave up four hits
and five walks and recorded
nine strike outs in the losing
effort.
Dashwood's only runs of
the game both came in the
fourth inning. Dan Creces
started the inning off with a
triple and scored on a single

Dittmer. Also getting hits
were Jeff LaPorte and
Johnston.
Monday night in the first
inning Brad Steeper had a
base hit and Tim Bender
reached first on an error.

Creces made it to first on a
Hanover miscue. Steckle hit
both home.
In the fourth LaPorte was
safe on an error. Bender and
Creces both hit doubles in
the same inning to score two
wins.
Dan Creces was the
Dashwood hurler scattering
three hits.
The final game was
scoreless until the bottom of
the fourth when Trevor
Johnston belted out a double
and singles by Steckle, and
Dittmerand a sacrifice bunt
by Creces resulted in two
Daswhood runs.
In the sixth Steckle,
Dittmer. Doug Schade, and
LaPorte each had a single.
Dittmer and Schade picked
up the win on the mound. He
allowed three hits. all in the
final inning when Hanover
scored their only run of the
game.
