Unveil plaque honouring
Kirkton show organizer
The Kirkton Horticulture
society held their annual
flower show August 18. 1981.
President Miss Jean
Copeland welcomed all to
the evening program and
read a poem on Gardens.
The Kirkton-Woodham
Community centre was quite
colourful with its display of
flowers and posters, which
pupils of grades 7 and 8 had
made from local schools.
Ron Brookshaw from Ran-
noch accompanied by Mrs
Earl Stephens entertained
with his humorous songs.
Mrs. Robert Ratcliffe
presented the' awards to
pupils who had participated
in the poster contest held
earlier in the year.

VanderWalle. South Perth,

"Granny's Garden" was
the title for grade 8 with
winners being Kathy

Honourable mention Teresa
Taziar Usborne C.. Mrs Ted

the judges for posters.

and Kathy from Stratford
sang accompanied by Mrs.
M. Johns. Mr. Steve Ellens
of Mitchell also entertained
with several songs.
Mrs. Evelyn Wiles in-
troduced Mr Dnn Gaffney
who talked about roses and
their care also about some
unusual green house plants.
Mrs. M. Atthill thanked him
for his informative talk.
Mrs. E. Strahan presented
prizes to Mrs. Keith
McLaren. Exeter. Mrs. Reta
Iluether. Stratford. third
Mrs. Evelyn Harrigan,
Lucan. the top winners in the
flower show. Mrs. Harry
Burgin. Kirkton was a close
runner up with her display.
Society members were
pleased to have several
junior exhibitors this year.
The Toronto Dominion Bank
Special awards for best
gladioli were 1st Mrs.
Laura Hern. 2nd Mrs.
Margaret Christie. Mrs.
Birchall from Mitchell was
the judge for the day.
This year is the 75th an-
niversary of O.H.A. in On-
tario. A special event of the
evening was the unveiling of
a bronze plaque in memory
of the late Dr. C.A.
Campbell of Kirkton by Mrs.
J. Willis and Mrs. P. Johns.
This plaque is to be mounted
in the foyer of the hall.
It was the late Dr.
Campbell who had first
organized this society in
1930. The first meeting had
been held in Kirkton United
Church with Dr. Campbell
as president from 1930-37
when the society was dis-
banded.
With his great love for
flowers -the Rose" being his
favorite. this society was re-
activated in 1946 from
whence it has flourished to
where it is today. Miss Jean
Copeland thanked everyone
for their participation in
making the flower show a
success.

church were guests with
Mrs. Hazel Davis to a pot
luck meal and pool party.
Mrs. Marguerite Greenlee
held a short business
meeting and plans were
made for the August 26
chicken barbecue to be held
at the church.
Mrs Clarence Davis
visited her daughter. Mr.
and Mrs. Wayne Love and
daughters. Varna.
Miss Marylou Lindell and
a group of Medway high
school fiends attended "A
Chorus Line." a play at
O'Keefe Centre, Toronto
Saturday and they dined at
"The Organ Grinder".
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne
Carroll and children are
holidaying in the Georgian
Bay area.
Mrs. Ford Dyer. Sarnia
spent the weekend with Mr.
and Mrs Harry Carroll.
Mrs. Marguerite Greenlee
entertained a group of
citizens for Craigholme Nur-
sing home. Friday after-
noon. Mrs. Bob Hodgins
brought a loaded van. Mr.
Calvin Greenlee. an uncle
of Earl Greenlee was one
of the group. Mrs. Earl
Greenlee and Mrs. Lilly
Dobbs Exeter and Mrs. Rose
Atkinson Lucan and Mrs.
Pat Merrian Lucan, were
guests also. Marguerite
served tea and Calvin
Greenlee remained for
dinner and the evening.
Mrs. Mary Davis accom-
panied by Mrs. Alexia Atkin-
son visited "Needham
Funeral. London Tuesday
afternoon to pay their
respects to the late Alfred
Culbert of Thedford. Alfred
was born on the fourth con-
cession of Biddulph, son of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Wesley
Culbert and attended SS No.
2 and St. Patricks church.
