Boats, biowing sand problems at GB
Continued from page 17
Green said that he was
against spending money to
plow the beach because "we
have to spend the tax dollars
for the most people's
benefit " He said it wasn't
fair to spend the rest of the
villages money to clean out
one person's yard
Councillor Dennis Snider
suggested that cleaning out
sand was the responsibility
of the beach front property
owners Snider said that he
understood that the lake
front cottagers had asked
that the sand dunes be plow -
cd down in 1967. Woodley
said that council at that time
destroyed the natural dune
formation to clean up
-morals" on the beach.
"Every 10 years a group will
get together and' change
things." Snider said.
Woodley said that council
was not interested in the
safety of people. "You can
say it if you like. but it's not
true." Green said. Green
added !hat the safety hazard
was not the sand. but

Woodley also complained
about noise from late night
parties in his area. "The
police don't care. I don't
thing anybody cares," he
said
"That's not a fair
statement." responded
councillor Keith Crawford.
Sharen said that with
regards to parties. the police
will warn the partiers once.
11 it continues. the police
will call him, and he will
warn the partiers. Then if
the party continues. Sharen
will lay charges under the
village's noise bylaw.
Sharen acts as bylaw en-
forcement officer.
Woodley told Sharen he'd
call him at 3:00 a.m. the
next time there was a party.
"It won't be the first time."
Sharen replied. "But. before

Laughton had asked that no
charges be made as he can-
not erect a building on the
lot. Council felt that in the
future he may want to have a
washroom next to a boat
dock
It was voted to reduce
sewer footage charges for
Jean Woodley at 25 Pine
Street. R. Neilson at 10 Cen-
tre Street. and Shirley John-
son at 35 Gill Road as sewer
pipes do not run the full
width of their property.
General Manager of the
Ausabte Bayfield Conserva-
tion Authority Tom Prout
attended the meeting to dis-
cuss erosion control work in
the village. Sharen asked
Prout about funds which
MPP Lorne Henderson said
had been earmarked for ero-
sion control work in Grand
Bend "I hope you got that in
writing from Lorne," Prout
replied.
Council instructed
foreman Jack Stanlake to
look at driveways on proper-
ty belonging to 1)r. Harvey
Cowan. Dr. Cowan sent a
letter to council saying that
the drives had not been
restored since sewer con-
struction.
Council told Howard
Solomon that his business
taxes would be deleted from
the time of the fire at
Missy's.
Tammy Alexander was
hired as bath house atten-
dant.
Sign permits were issued
for Sportstechnique on River
Road. and the Ice Cream
Factory on highway 21.
The council chamber
boasted new drapes for Mon-
day night's meeting.

Hockey school
Continued from page 18
The classes will be for 45
minutes each night. Habkirk
says that after 45 minutes
children's attention spans
wane. The school is hoping
to register about 75 students.
Girls are welcome.
The cost for the week's
school is $3.5. The children
will be given a crested T-
shirt of Thedford hockey
school.
Habkirk and Comfort
came to Thedford to begin
setting up the program
Wednesday. They stressed
that the aim of the school is
to make the new skills fun
for the children. Habkirk
said that all their instructors
are good communicators.
and listen to and handle
children well.
Comfort said that there
should be no conflicts
between what the children
(earn at hockey school and
what their coaches tell
them.
Parents and coaches are
welcome to come and watch
the classes.
While Habkirk admitted
that they couldn't work
miracles with only six 45
minute sessions, he did
promise that the children
would learn new skills and
drills. and if the child was
keen on improving his or her
hockey. they would have new
drills which they could con-
tinue practising on their
own.
"1 don't mind telling you,
we're good." Habkirk said.
Fruin echoed Habkirk's
comments. saying that the
school would help minor
hockey in Thedford. They
pointed out that several
teams from Aylmer had won
Ontario championships or
made Ontario finals since
the hockey school opened
there.
A special course on adult
goal tending will also be held
during the hockey school
week. Ron Marlow will be
teaching the program. to
assist goalies of all ages.
Instruction on how to avoid
unnecessary injuries. how to
maintain equipment and ex-
ercises for goalies to keep in
shape will he incJ,uded.
The cost of adtilt goalie
course will be $45 for the
week.
