Sharing is theme of summer

Wouldn't it be nice if
everyone all over the world
learned the sure meaning of
sharing Sharing friendships.
sharing ideas. sharing
•
responsibilities or just
merely sharing their
possessions are a few of the
different ways that sharing
can be looked upon.
This years playground
theme centres around this
very gift. the gift of sharing.
"Lets share" is the title of
the playground programs
which began Monday and
will end August 15.
The program is open to
any children between the
ages of four to 14 who would
like to enjoy some fun and
games with children the
same age as themselves.
The four to 10 year olds
enjoy their program at .the
Victoria Park while the
eleven to fourteen meet at
the .Rec. Centre grounds,
Monday marked the begin-
ning of Hello Canada week.
This week the children on
the playground have already
enjoyed a scavenger hunt. a
• fun challenging game, called
capture the flags . a game of
basketball at the Public
School. two exciting crafts
as well as various other
games.
The rest of the week will
include more of the above,
exciting adventureg as well
as a birthday party Thurs•
day and a salute of a very
deserving hero. Mr. Terry
Fox. Terry Fox is just one
prime example of man that
has used the gift of. sharing.
As you can see there are
many exciting events up-
coming this week. The
following weeks will bring
new days. new games. new
activities and new
friendship. See you at the

The Exeter Lions
playgound began bright 3pd
early Monday morning to
see quite a number of Ex-
eter's children's enthusiastic
faces. Parachute games,
tag. songs and name tags
were played, sung and made
with eagerness and excite-
ment ,by the children who
attended.
The treasure hunt at the
Junior playground in Vic-
toria Park had the children
running in all directions
looking for buried treasure.
Once the 'tresure' la
watermelon) was found
everyone enjoyed a slice of
the cool treat.
This all just happened in
the 1st day. More exciting

Stephen Township pool
started their adult lesson
program this week. Any
adults out there who would
tike to learn to swim arg
welcome to join in. Lessons
are held weekdays from 1 -
1:30 and cost $1 per lesson.
Some working adults have
expressed an interest in a
swim class at 4:00 p.m. after

public swimmers are to note
that night time public swim
will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
instead of 6:30 to 8:30.
That's beginning next Mon-
day July 13th. So don't
forget!'
S.P.A.R.K. and Dashwood
playground were treated to
the "Kids on the Block" this
week. The program was
done with life sized puppets
who have various handicaps
and the puppets explain how
they cope with their in-
dividual handicap. Thank
you to the Ministry of
Culture and Recreation for
providing the program free
of charge.
Both playgrounds have
some interesting activities
coming up for area
youngsters. S.P.A.R.K.
seniors will be off to the
, Pinery for a camp out and
other events include a visit
to Ferguson's Apiary, a bike
rodeo and a trip to a local
farm for a hike and hay ride.
Dashwood playground
youngsters will also be
heading for the Pinery later
this month. They have a
work day planned as well
where youngsters go out and
cut grass. clean out garages
or anything that needs to be
done around the house to
help raise money for a
playground trip sometime in'
August.
We will he heading into
our last week of session no. 1
swim lessons next week so
anyone wanting to enter ses-
sion no. 2 should sign up at
the pool.

playground
events are planned around
the summer theme of Let's
Share. With this aim in mind
the leaders of the summer
playground activities are go-
ing to try to get the point
across of sharing with
friends. families, neighbours
and enemies.
Each week of the six week
program also has separate
themes to enable new
games. costumes and
special events to bring
across the idea of sharing.
The first week of the
summer playground is Hello
Canada week and further ac-
tivities this week include a
birthday party. swimming at
the wading pool everyday,
finger painting, water
balloon tosses and on Friday
a special tribute to Terry
Fox. -
Thc; following week is
Sports Week and include as
special attractions are
swimming, roller skating,
playday in Seaforth on Tues-
day and a special olympics
Friday. Hillbilly week is the
theme for the week and a
sleep over fer jr. playground
is planned plus a costume
day. hayride and parade.
The fouth week is
Awareness Week, the whole
title evolves around getting
to know the environment and
treating it properly. Nature
crafts and walks are a few of
the special attractions.
The fifth week is entitled
Responsibility week and is
aimed at getting the.
playground participants
more aware of safety.
The sixth week is called
Everyday is a Holiday and
each day is a special holiday
with Friday being Christmas
and Santa Claus arriving.
All and all the playground
staff and children will have a
full and exciting summer
learning how to share. Each
day the Jr. Playground runs
from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
at Victoria Park and 9:30 to
11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 4:00
p.m. at the Rec centre the
sr. playgound.
Junior playground is for
children from ages 4 to 10
and the sr. playground is
held for youth from 11 to 14.
For more fun, laughter and
information call the South
Huron Recreation Centre
(235-2833) or better yet come
out and participate and
share the games, songs and
crafts.

Pearce repeats with 34
Steve Pearce fired a one
under par 34 to win the
regular men's night "A"
flight championship at the
Ironwood golf course for the
second straight week.
Pearce recorded eight
pars and one birdie to come
in with his very fine score.
Allan Oakes was the low net
winner with a 31.
In "B" flight, Mark
Cronyn and Don Heywood
were tied for low gross
honours with identical scores
of 43. Best in low net were
Gerry MacLean and Mike
Cushman with 31 and 33,
respectively.
Marshall Dearing was the
"C" flight low gross per-
former with a 45 and Ray
Heywood had the low net
score of 31.
Winners in "D" flight were
Brian McLelland and Lee
Webber.
