Grade 8 graduation ceremony
held at Oakwood Inn restaurant
Sixteen grade eight
students received diplomas
at Oakwood Inn Tuesday,
after completing elementary
school at Grand Bend school.
Laura Campbell was given
the award for the top
academic student, as well as
the citizenship award. Both
awards were given by the
Forest chapter of the
Independent Order of the
Daughters of the Empire.
Mrs. Val Fraleigh presented
the awards, both of which
were books.
School crests were
presented to Carol Ann
Albertson, Laura Campbell,
and Kevin Alger for com-
bining academic work with
other school activities.
Peter Brenner gave the
valedictory address. Nancy
Southcott presented the
Grand Bend Women's
Institute with a history of
the village.
The closing remarks were
made by teacher John
Moore. He said that like the
students, he, too, will be at a
new school in September.
Many changes will take
place at Grand Bend school.
In her last newsletter. Prin-
cipal Betty Fitchett said
that she will be leaving,
along with Mr. Moore, Mrs.
Sagenian and Madame
Heinhuis. Replacing them
will be Mr. Fletcher, Mr.
Morrice and Miss Cole. No
replacement has been nam-
ed for Mrs. Sageman as the
relief teacher.
Prepare outdoor church
The Sacrament of Holy
communion was observed,
Sunday morning at the
United Church,
Rev.' H. Moore's
meditation message was
"Servants of the cup," with
scripture reading from
Genesis, Chapter 44, verses
1-17.
Choir anthems today were
"Let us with tongues and
talents employ," and "The
Son of God proclaim."
Next Sunday July 5,
weather permitting, the.
Open Air Church Services
will begin at Grand Bend,
and continue through July
and August. The hour of
worship will be 11:00 a,m. A
warm invitation to all to
worship putdoors on the
church lawn.
Help is required Thursday.
evening to set up the outside
benches .for summer ser-
vices.
The Grand Bend Couples
club will hold a lawn and
bake sale on Saturday, July
4, at 1:00 p.m. at the church.
Any donations for same
would be welcome.

Church of God News
Around 60 attended the
Church of God Sunday
School picnic, Wednesday
evening, at the pavilion at
Dashwood Community
centre. A short devotional
was conducted by Doug
Steckle.
Games were held for
adults and children and
Church] of God ladies held
a Strawberry social on the
church lawn last Saturday
afternoon. The funds from
the project are planned to go
to help mission work.
A vacation church Bible
school will be held at Church
of God, July 6th to 10th, open
to children ages 4, through to
grade 8 age. Time- 1 to 4 p.m.
Everyone welcome.
Doug Steckle who has been
assisting Rev. John Camp-
bell during the month, of
June, on his holiday leave,
returned Tuesday to Gard-
ner College in Camroi'e
Alberta.
During the call to worship
at the morning service at
Church of God, Doug and
Rev. Campbell sang two
duets, "In Holy reverence,"
and "Each step I take."
A special love offering was
taken at the morning service
to help Doug.
During August, Doug will
be touring with a musical
group

Rev. George Anderson
spoke about St. Peter this
past Sunday- taking his text
fromMathew 18 verse 18.
Rev. Anderson feels that
the life of Peter is a witness
to us all- the man who
overcame all barriers and
became one whom all
Christians remembers.

bus trip, sponsored by Grand
Bend Golden Age club. last
Tuesday.
They left Grand Bend at
8:30 a.m. and stopped in the
Bramalea shopping centre
for lunch. Then they went on
to Kleinburg to view the
McMichael collection of
paintings by the Group of
Seven, and work of Emily
Carr.
From here they went to the
Church of Our Lady, for an
arranged tour, in Guelph.
Also in Guelph they had a
guided tour of the University
and grounds.
All enjoyed supper at a
Ponderosa in Guelph and
home again by 8 p.m.
Congratulations! to Alice
Brown who has graduated
from her course in fashion
merchandising, at Humber
College in Toronto. Alice_ is
working in Guelph.
At the weekly bridge game
at ST. John's Parish hall,
Wednesday p.m., they
played the Howell movement
system with four tables in
play.
