Meeting will be the Milverton Suns senior am and the Milverton Millwrights, a top notch junior club. Considerable interest should be generated by the inclusion of four -area young ladies on the rosters of the two Milverton club. Lynne Farquhar and Iris Marshall have been valued members of the Suns for a number of years. The Suns playing in a strong ladies league with com- petition from Kitchener, Agincourt, Fort Erie and a number of New York state teams are in first place at •the present time. Playing a vital part in this year's Milverton junior club are pitcher Patti Down and third baseman Sheila Penhale. Both were very important cogs in recent Kirkton midget girls teams which won a number of championships. The game is sponsored by the Exeter Minor Ball Association and all proceeds will go to help the large number of local teams of varying ages. If you haven't ever seen a ladies fastball game you will certainly be in for a treat and a pleasant sur- prise. Unless there is a great and quick reversal in negotiations in the major league baseball strike, no one will have the excuse to stay home Sunday after- noon and watch baseball on television. • See you at the ballpark. Gunners lose second straight in minor soccer to Craig , . In district soccer league play this week the Exeter Gunners dropped their second straight decision this time losing 1-0 to a very strong team from Ailsa Craig -Nairn. Those who travelled to Nairn saw a very well played game in which AC -Nairn had 80 percent of the play. The Gunners defense mar- shalled by captain Jason Hern and supported by There is a difference The common opinion of a lot of sports fans is that Toronto is a city of losers with the Blue Jays now join- ing the Argonauts and the Maple Leafs. The Blue Jays, certainly are losers as far as games are concerned, but, they are winners in one category as opposed to the Argos. The Jays have a professional attitude towards the media which their football counterparts don't appear to have. Each year Jays president Peter Bavasi tells his players and_coaches that the media represen- tatives have a 'ob to do and he explains what it is. Bavasi usually explains that reporters and com- mentators are in a highly competitive business and they often come under pressure to come up with a variety of stories and sometimes they may not make the team look too good. Now let's get to the Argos. On the morning of July 16, the Globe and Mail carried a picture of Argonaut trainer Fred Dunbar sleeping during la practice ses- sion. That same afternoon coach Willie Wood barred all newspaper photographers from the practice field. A few hours later, team executives reversed Wood's decision, but, it was too late. The way the Argos have been playing in recent years more people than the trained have been lulled to sleep by the action. We would guess that most photographers wouldn't mind at all if they were kept away from practices, especially on a hot day with not much going on to keep them awake. Our guess would be that having photographers around would keep some of the players on their toes in- stead of loafing around at times. Since Willis Wood took over as coach last year he has done a lot to improve the team's image and we would hope he forgets about small and childish things like he pulled two weeks ago. f Stars are coming back The CFPL radio all star fastball team is coming back to Crediton to fulfill an engagement which was rained out a few weeks ago. They will meet the Crediton Cowgirls ladies fast - ball team in an exhibition game at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 18. . • • ':T-hfe CFPL team will include John Bowles, Ron Thomas. Gary Allan Price, Jeff Gilhooley, Ron Am brose, Gary Marles and Gayle Woods. The ball game will be folowed by a dance in the Crediton Pavillion sponsored by the Creditons parks board. To try again Attempts will he made to complete the annual Lucan Irish fastball tournament this weekend. Postponed because of rain after sotne games were played a few weeks ago. the tourney will resume Saturday with the championship games slated for Sun- day evening. Reggie bars sales falling Reggie Jackson, probably one of the highest paid modern day baseball players if you count his extra en- dorsations is not making quite as much money these days. Sales of the Reggie chocolate bars have fallen off drastically and may be taken off the market by the Curtis Candy Company. Apparently Reggie had some problems with a re- cent commercial for his bars. In the film clip he was supposed to bite into a bar. It actually took 44 bites to get the scene just right. Well, at least that number matches the 44 on his Yankee uniform. i Richard Phillips, Darryl Beaver, l red Godbolt, Peter McAllister and Stephen Bryon kept AC -Nairn off the score sheet during the first half. When AC -Nairn did get a shot on net tyhey had to contend with goalkeeper David Sthwindt who played another good game. The Gunners got the two breaks in the first half led by Jason Hern and Jason Heywood but there was a lack of support running by other Gunner players .and the effort was smothered. In the second half the Gunners appeared stronger and good hustle by Ryan Stewart and efforts by .Shawn Gillispie and Jamie Dougall caused some openings which had the Gunners forwards moving . AC -Nairn got the winning goal with about 10 minutes left in play when a leoming READY FOR SUNDAY BALI GAME — The Milverton Suns and Milverton Millwrights, two top Ontario ladies fastball teams will play an exhibition game in Exeter Sunday afternoon.
