Following is a press release from the Tiger of- fice: Lpu Whitaker said it best when he signed, with the Tigers as a fifth round draft choice in June. 1975. Whitaker was signed as a - third baseman and won the Florida `State League Most Valuable Player• Award playing that position for Lakeland in 1976. He was switched to second in the Florida instructional League that winter. then teamed with Trammell up" the middle for the entire 1977 season at Montgomery. Whitaker and Trammell jumped from Double -A play to the Tigers after an im- pressivespring• training and started 1978 alternatingwith Stene Dillard at second and Mark Wagner at short.
