Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Riehl and girls were guests Sunday with the latter's parents Mr. & Mrs. Ben Riley, Goderich. Miss Sheila Duncan who is working at Hillside Rest Home of Sebringville was home for a few days last week. Mr. & Mrs. David Passmore, Tom and Jon, Mr. Dale Passmore were guests at the Haist Christ- mas gathering on Sunday at the home of Mrs. Helen Jones, Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. William Rohde were Sunday supper guests with Mr. & Mrs. -Glenn Roh- de. Mrs. Isobelle Cann and Mrs. Kay Cann, Exeter were guests Sunday withMr.&Mrs. Lloyd Ballantyne. Miss Alicia Mellenger, Hensall spent the weekend with her great grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Passmore. Mr. & Mrs. William Harper, Mitchell and Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Ballantyne were Wednesday evening supper guests with Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Passmore. Miss JeanCowardreturned home Wednesday from University Hospital where she underwent surgery recently. Mrs. Paul Passmore is t' patient in Victoria 1%spital where she underwent surgery. Get well wishes are extended. John Stewart is a patient in University Hospital at time of writing. Get well wishes are extended. He is Mrs. Larry Ballantyne's father. Mr. & Mrs. Earnest Brandow, Saskatchewan visited with Mr. & Mrs. Ross Hargreaves, Saturday. He is a cousin of Mrs. Hargreaves. David Cunnington led in prayer. The kindergarten class sing Away In a Manger. The Young People gave the Antiphonal Reading. Taking part in a Festival of Lights were Ruth Bray, Joyce Cunnington, Lee Hodgert, Pauline Pym and Cheryl Stewart. Mr. Ross Hargreaves .lit the purple candle for repentence in the Advent wreath. Each class an the audience brought their of- +fering to til front. Steve Pym and Lafry Dawson also assisted in the service as did the other Sunday School classes. Mrs. Murray Dawson and Mrs. John Pym .did the decorating. • Christmas concert The Christmas concert -was well attended Saturday evening. Mrs. John Pym, the superintendent welcomed everyone and was• was chairlady for the program, The Primary class had as their number "Naughty Abigail" of which Mrs. David Passmore and Mrs. Rick Parker, Misses Ruth Bray and Donna Stewart sang with Ruth at the piano. The kindergarten class p,esented The Birthday Party and The Christmas Tree. Their teachers are Min Agnes Bray and Mrs. Workshop Oh, in there is the busiest place, Of all toy making it's the base.- Santa's ase.Santa's elves , make everything you can think of, Teddybears, trains and toys you'll love. • Soon Santa will be going 'away, • "Ho -Ho -Ho" is what he'll say. A sing song of Christmas numbers were then enjoyed with Mrs. Murray Dawson and Mrs.= Floyd Stewart leading and Mrs. Reg • Hodgert at the piano. Humorous jokes were given _by the intermediate class of which the teachers are Mrs. Glen Lamport and' Paul Passmore. Ross Hargreaves spoke a few words. Miss Donna Stewart then sang a humorous song accompanied by Miss Ruth Bray. The junior class had a dialogue "Santa Comes Early". The teachers are Mrs. Barry Jeffery and Mrs. Gerry Morgan. A skit "The Lord's Prayer" was given by Mrs. Barry Jeffery and Mrs. David Passmore. , The Young People's class had a dialogue "Men's Lib" of which the teachers are Mrs. Murray Dawson and Mrs. Floyd Stewart. Santa Claus arrived and distributed gifts from a well laden and prettily decorated Christmas tree. Church service The regular church ser- vice was held Sunday. Mr. Hargreaves lit the third advent candle which reminds -us that we are preparing for an -event of great joy. The third Sunday of Advent has the connotation "Jesus Christ Revolutionary." Our Bible • tells of the great reaction which .,was stirred .up in Nazareth after Jesus read from the book of Isaiah Which The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. Green candle a symbol of Hope of Regeneration of Nurture of Hope or Growth. •This green candle reminds us 'that we must offer a broken world Hope. Mr. Hargreaves read Malachi 3, 1.6. A drama"The Broom" was enacted by the Young People's Class namely. Lee Hodgert, Paul Stewart, Joyce Cunnington, Brenda Hodgert, Larry Dawson, Donna Stewart and Michael Stewart. The Christmas church service will be h eld Sunday. December 24 at 11:15 a.m. and the annual Christmas. eve service at 8 p.m. (can- dle -light ). Communio with Rev. Stewart Miner assisting. Don't forget the New Year's party December 28 at 7 p.m. Elimville will bring first course and 'Thames Road the dessert. Turkey and ham will be provided.
